ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. (April 13, 2004) - The Cooper Tires Championship Series has announced that the June Sprints SCCA National event will count towards the SCCA Sportscar Championship.

Any SCCA Sportscar or Sports 2000 competitor racing in the SCCA National race at the June Sprints may use his results towards the SCCA Sportscar Championship. In order to do so, the competitor must use the spec Avon bias-ply racing slick used in the SCCA Sportscar Championship and must notify the series office of his or hers intention to use the June Sprints result towards the championship.

Featuring the modern Van Diemen SCCA Sportscar, similar in design to the current prototype cars, and SCCA eligible Sports 2000 cars, the SCCA Sportscar Championship is ideal for teams and drivers looking to become involved in sportscar racing at an affordable price. Putting the emphasis on driver skill and seat time, SCCA Sportscar drivers racing in the Cooper Tires Championship are prepared to move up the Motorsports ladder.

The next event for the SCCA Sportscar Championship, is April 23-25, at Road Atlanta, as part of the Drift Atlanta weekend.
