So sad. Carl was a cool dude in the racing world, especially in recent decades with his major involvement with vintage racing. Always active, always opinionated (not in a bad sense), always passionate. Just saw him a the October VMC meeting in Detroit. I will miss Carl.

I recall one time years ago when smart cell phones were just coming into use. Carl had one. Carl was talking to someone over cocktails and asked him his cell phone number. Carl appeared to be punching it into an app, then showed the guy Google earth zooming into right down to where they were standing. The guy really freaked out, thinking Carl could locate exactly where he was. Joke on him. Carl was just locating his own phone Let the poor guy suffer acute paranoia for quite a while. Hilarious!!!

A few years ago I circulated an email to many friends celebrating my 25 years in vintage racing (it's up to 33 now). Mostly it was cryptic comments on mutual friends - the one on Carl was -
"Carl - for saying no in so many nice ways" - he was a senior SVRA official at the time.
