    Default #50 RF98K Van Diemen - SOLD

    ! ! ! SOLD ! ! ! Thank you Apex Speed

For sale: Van Diemen Model RF98K Cassis No. 2498. I still plead a little ignorance about the car but here's what I know: The car had a lot of development by a previous owner. See link below for more info. on this car and the sister car. It does have the wide track suspension. It has front and rear cockpit adjustable sway bars. I bought the car with confidence because I know the care/prep it had by the immediate previous owner, Dr. David James and Briton West Motorsports. It is a very nice handling car which I think can be seen by my first outing with the new radial tires at the Glen Major and lap times in the low/mid 2:03s. The engine in the car is a Farley, aluminum head, that has been freshened by Briton West Motorsports - it's probably close to needing a refresh. The spare is a Farley with a cast iron head - I was told this is the strong motor and has very little time on it. There's 20 pounds of ballast in the car. I weigh about 195 and just make weight. I'm selling because I have one kid in college and one following soon. I'll work on posting some pictures in a night or two.

The car comes with the following spares and parts in no particular order:
    8 OZ wheels
    10 MADIN wheels
Used tires include: 1 mounted set of radials with 3 heat cycles, 1 set unmounted radials 5 heat cycles, 1 set mounted radials with unknown heat cycles, but they were as fast as new tires (go figure), 1 set unmounted 4 cycle bias plies, 1 Single brand new bias ply rear. 1 set used mounted bias ply full rains and 1 set mounted grooved bias ply intermediates. barely worth mentioning, but good for just some track time is a set of unmounted bias plies with 9 heat cycles.
    AIM MXL Data system with:
    GPS with predictive lap timing
    Aim SmartyCam
    Front brake pressure
    Rear brake pressure
    Throttle position
    4 shock inputs
Penske Shocks (rebuilt 9 race weekends ago)

    Default Sister

    Thans Ric!
I have the sister, and I can say that this car is fast! It does have the narrow chassis (better aero) but I'm 6', 205lbs, and I fit. Great car! If I remember correctly, this car for sale has better fitting, and modified bodywork for even better aero.

Yes - I believe that is the car. I have boxes of parts that say 74 FF and that was the paint scheme before I repainted it. The body work fit and finish is still excellent except for the nose that was replaced just before I bought it. The nose fit is not bad, it's just not exceptional.

Keith went very well in this car as soon as he put it on track. He had very strong runs at the last two Glen Majors events battling at the front with new cars worth 3X the cost of this car.

And you absolutely are the king of prep. No problem making a germ free sandwich on any part of one of John's racecars. I remember the first time I saw your precious yellow DB1 after a HRS West race that you won at PIR, it was the cleanest nicest one I had ever seen. I went out and bought one shortly there after, circa 2006.

    Default Prep

Thanks Marshall. As you know, a lot of the enjoyment of this whole game for me is the building, and prep. I hope to build a vintage at some point soon!

Now, back to the sale of this wonderful 98K.

I've had my eye & hands on this car when previous owner, David James ran it. Very tidy car indeed

    Keith,

I was wondering if you could post a picture of the side pods?

    Good luck with the sale.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I was told many of the mods were performed by Geoff Bushor, now running the Team Pelfrey F1600 and USF2000 programs. Cool car! Hope it stays in the NorthEast.

Nice to see the car in good hands. I was the original owner of this car, bought in late '97,and sold it in '07 to Brad Hayes. I did the sidepod and engine cover modifications. There has been more done to the car since. The dead give-away it was mine is the patched left rear bellcrank.

I'd love to buy it back but one racecar at a time is all I can handle.

ahhhh I miss this car. Yes this is the yellow car that we bought from Jim Nash. Jim did much of the original aero work. We then continued the development that Jim had started. We put a ton of work in to this car during the winter before the first Road America Runoffs. Full frame up rebuild, plus massaging the aero further, full widetrak suspension update. I was planning to make a run to the front of the pack with this car, then I had neck surgery which ended my season before it started. Then the next season I had the chance to jump to an FC, so we never got to campaign this car at the level for which it was prepped.

@problemchild Yes, Geoff Bushor helped us with the development of this car. At the time, Geoff lived just up the street from me, and we took full advantage of his knowledge.

I have a pdf document with more detail on this car if anyone is interested. feel free to email me at bradhayes74@gmail.com

If I had the time to do anything with it, I would buy this car back in a heartbeat. Someone please give it a good home.

The patch on the rear bell crank is done so nice I never noticed it as a patch until I just looked now.

Here's the side pods from a couple angles.

Brad Hayes might be able to offer more information. You're not the first person to ask about them.

Need a different photo let me know.
