    Default A/F

    "a change like 155 main to a 150 main, I asked if they made a 152 or 153 main"

Ben, on the Weber carb, the air correction jets can provide that half step you mentioned.
Increasing the air correction jets will give a quarter to half main jet size change at RPM above ~5K.

But in autoXing/solo, due to the very short straights, you are on and off the throttle constantly so that the engine is running rich from the accelerator pump anyway. So it probably does not make any difference. In road racing, the engine is running WOT for sometimes 10 seconds or more while you row through the gears on each straight.

Jim G, no luck in BM? Sad to see DNS beside your and your codriver's names...

Good luck to everyone in CM tomorrow and Friday! I'll be checking Sololive more often than I should be while working.

Sunday broke transmission on practice course

Pulled engine on Monday. Had spare trans one-dayed to me from Small Fortune Racing.

Switched to AMod because it runs Thursday and Friday.

Brought engine on Tuesday morning to local bike mechanic who prepped it for repair.

Got spare transmission today Wedneday at 815am and brought it to bike shop. Picked up engine with new tranny at 1230.

Began installing engine at 1pm. Ran into usual slow downs but ready to fire engine by 630. Engine/tranny is locked But we check starter just in case. It's fine.

    Give up at 730pm.

Try again at 8pm by removing clutch (which can be done with engine in car). Find that the clutch basket is jammed. Will bring car to bike mechanic to have a look on Thursday.

Will therefore not get to drive on Thursday. Might get to drive Friday.

If it can't be fixed in car, will decide whether to pull engine or go home.

Bike shop gave it another 2.5 hours but couldn't fix it.

AMod was 4 seconds off the BMod pace. I'd be in it ifwe could have fixed the car.
EDIT: the above was wrong. Was looking at wrong courses.

Jonathan Clements leading the CM field after day 1: http://sololive.scca.com/CM.php

Second place Ben Martinez is 0.073 seconds back, and the 8 trophy positions cover exactly 0.7 seconds of spread. Nice!

There are some truck stops not too far away. $10 for a shower.I camped in a friends trailer with air-conditioning half the week, motel for nights before competition runs the other nights. Staying on-site was nice for the social aspect, I slept and woke up better with a morning shower at the motel though.

As most of you probably know, there was a tragic accident in the paddock the Sunday before Nationals. For those of you who don't know, Tony Rietdorf, a competitor in CAM-C, fell off the back of a golf cart and sustained massive head injuries. He and is wife, Michelle, were out riding around and taking pictures of cars when she made a sudden turn. Tony was standing in the back and was thrown to the concrete.

Tony passed away last night. He leaves his wife and a 12 week old son. His wife use 12 weeks of family medical leave with the baby. Her employer seems to be deny any family medical leave for this tragic situation.

I never had the opportunity to meet Tony, whose nickname was Roscoe. He was paddocked across from the St. Louis Region tent, but I arrived the day after the accident. From what those who did know him, he sounds like he was a great guy, and a great car guy.

His Facebook page is Roscoe Racin'

A Go Fund Me page was set up to help with his medical bills. Now, sadly it will help with his funeral expenses. Please consider making a donation to help the family of a our brother in our sport. I see Pru already has. Roscoe Racin' Recovery

Contact me if you would like my Excel file that I use to compare segment times.
I use the cones numbers and lines on pavement to measure the time at the front tire in Windows Movie Maker and Excel formulas and formatting.
I'd love to see other's segment times.

Column A has the cone number from the course map with other notes. When the LF or RF tire is even with the cone, or + or - indicates to use the line (expansion strip) on the pavement when the tire is at or just after that line.

Example: Cell D5 has movie time of 32.27. This is when the LF is on or just after the line after cone 128. Shown on the attachment is movie time of 32.10 where the tire is at cone 128 but I use lines as a better markers to avoid the wide angle lens skewing. So, slow motion advance a few frames to get the tire on or after the line, which is time of 32.27. Enter that time into the Excel cell.

When the movie time goes into the next new minute, I just add 60 to the movie time which is why you'll see 70, 80, 90 seconds in the cells. The first pass thru takes some effort to setup and identify the segments. Then it's easy. At 60 FPS, Windows movie maker jumps 0.03 or 0.04 seconds per frame.

PS Determining a good start time spot was difficult with the angled timing lights.

PSS I'll send it to you in FB.

Just played with Adobe Premiere to do my first split screen comparison. Head hurts!!! There are so many controls and options.

Like the segments show, Ted was faster in the turns. I caught him in the eye brows, slalom and Kessel Run! Quite an education! :-o

Very funny to see how the co-driver affected the weight of the cars, especially when there's a 40 pound difference.

I can say that the data isn't correct for my car. Not at all.

#170 weighed 1113 on day 1 and 1108 on day 2. #70 weighed 1104 on day 1 and Jon would have to say what he weighed on day 2, but it should have been about 1112.

As the member of the MAC, just passing along what I received from Doug Gill (SCCA Rally/Solo Competition Manager) as a subset of the attached PDF (that contains all the MOD class weights).

It is a bit disturbing that the weights we (Jon and I at least) were told and the weights that were written down were different. Especially since we can't verify either the scale weight or the weight written down in the moment. If they write down 1099, we end up in a "he said, she said" situation in the protest tent.

At the last National's where I was weigh in SM my min weight was 2350, when I roll up onto the scales it showed 2348 I was a little bent because I had check the car out before I ran on the scales, they ask me to turn the car around and rescale, came in at 2351 that what aero can do for you.

I'm with you Andy if I looked up and saw 1113 and then was DQ because I was underweight, that would be an interesting at the protest tent. Good to be talking about this I will make sure I get a slip with my weight on it for next year. I would bet that none of got a slip with our own weights, won't happen next year.

    That could have been big!

I saw 1,104 on day one but thought they said "go" and moved a little before they said, "wait!" I stopped, the numbers were bouncing and then they told me to go. I suppose it's possible it "bounced" to 1,107, and they wrote that down.

Day two is right, 1,113 is what I remember being on the scale.

We're all about creating a space where people can connect, share knowledge, and exchange parts and vehicles, with a focus on specific race cars, classes, series, and events. Our community includes all major purpose-built road racing classes, like the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and various pro series across North America and beyond. At ApexSpeed, we're passionate about amateur motorsports and are dedicated to helping our community have fun and grow while creating lasting memories on and off the track.
