Default Majors Tour at Watkins Glen

    Good morning everyone!

If you didn't know - WGI completed a full repave at the end of last year and the new surface is smooth as glass (so I've been told!). The first SCCA race of the year is coming up in two short months and it's a Majors event. Registration has just finally opened and we invite you all to join us for a great weekend of racing on the fancy new pavement!

As a bonus, it's not even on the 4th of July weekend this year!

You can get registered on MotorsportReg or right here: http://msreg.com/16wgimajors

    See you at the track!

EDIT: Also, WGI will be hosting a Test Day on Thursday, 6/23 before the event. We'll have a flier with some of those details available as soon as the track provides it.

    Default New Track

Going to be interesting with the big Shark Teeth they put in every turn.
Also raised the curbing in the bus stop
I don't see any new track records myself
Open wheel cars hitting those teeth will be upside down

I really don't understand why tracks put in really aggressive "shark teeth" curbing. The motorcycle guys must be furious.

Does anyone have any pictures of the new curbing?

Is there any motorcycle racing at Watkins Glen?

    Not that I know of.

There are a few pictures of the curbs and track on the WGI twitter account. Trying to grab a few random ones (not the best perspectives, but anyway):

I didn't think the curbs looked that much different than before, but maybe they just aren't worn down yet from years of abuse?

    Default nasty looking

The curbs look pretty nasty....and much higher is some corners. Probably ok for Nascar....but we will see how light weight, low ground clearance cars manage them.

Those curbs don't look bad to me. Look just like those we have had for years at Road Atlanta. They are a series of inclined planes followed by a drop. So, you hit the slope of each tooth, not a sharp edge. We run all over them in place like T10A at Atlanta.

Those look like standard FIA curbs. Won't bother an open wheel car any more than any other car.

I will bet record times will be set. Some curbs might be rough but the new asphalt I am sure overall there will be more grip. Think about when VIR was repaved, times dropped by multiple seconds and some curbs that were replaced were very rough and needed to be avoided. My bet is times will fall.
