    Default Bosch "009" Distributor Cap

Does anyone remember the side connection distributor cap used on the aircooled Super Vees? I have not seen one in years. Part number and/or availability? Anyone have a NOS?

Edit: see below - this should work.

Not quite the style I recall, but similar...

The 009 dizzy cap is different from the Ford Bosch dizzy. I have a bunch of 009 caps around from long ago that will not fit the Ford version.

What about 90 degree terminals on the wires. Could maybe gain some clearance that way?

Thanks for the input. I did get one that fits a Ford and it does not fit the 009. I'll keep looking.

    Thanks again

I have 90° ends on the plug wires now and the body still touches one of the terminals

IIRC FIATs (X1/9s & 128s) used a 90 deg cap and I'm pretty sure it fits the Ford Bosch distributor. I would check, but my engine is at Ivey right now and I don't have a spare distibutor.

Do you recall what was different? One of the great things about Bosch parts is that they are very interchangable.

It was many years ago (more than I want to admit) that I tried the cap from a Ford. I have to admit I do not remember what didn't fit. Sorry! My old records from the '70s said to use the dizzy cap and a special rotor from Bill Scott Racing. That's all it says so no clue as to P.N. for either.

No difference, they are the same.
This is the X1/9 Bosch cap, the same as the cap listed in the Pegasus link
    It's mounted up on a 009.
It's in my car now and runs great

Just so we all end up on the same page - does the 009 cap fit the ford bosch distributor?

    Thanks,
    Gary

I can't comment on a "Ford" distributor unless you are referring to a Bosch distributor used in a Ford engine. I have to admit that I'm not one hundred percent sure but I think the "171" is the Bosch distributor used on the Kent (FF) and the German cammer (FC). It does use the same cap as a "009" Bosch distributor.

I have one of each. The motorcraft dizzy uses a larger diameter cap.

Thanks Ken, yes - I meant the bosch distributor used in the ford engine. The motorcraft distributor is very different.

Thanks for the confirmation that the 009 cap will work.
