Remember to be sure you get SINGLE port 1200 studs. They typically sell dual port sets. Also remember if these are for a racing FV engine you will need to cut ~ 1/4" off each side, since your cylinders have been cut and you don't use cylinder top seals.

No one makes chromoly head studs for a 1200. What would be the market for them? You have to get 1600's and do a lot of sawing and finishing. There could also be an complication if your case has the sunken #3 top stud.

The bullet proof setup is 10mm studs with case savers.

Brian's right there are no 1200 stud kits. The 1600 kits come with an extra long stud for the recessed #3 location so it shouldn't be an issue. Kits sometimes are different for single port vs. dual port so the 1/4" constant Jim mentioned may not work. They are available from many sources and most are off shore and still may break. Gene Berg is likely the best source but pricey.

I shoot for 7 1/2" and 8 1/2" in length but check your motor first. The top studs are not an issue but the lower one can interfere with the rockers if they're too long. Make them too short and you'll have challenges starting a nut on them when the push rod tubes are not compressed.

NEVER tighten the studs in the cases. Finger tight only. Not only will it stress the stud right where they break,(at the end of the threads nearest to the case) they will be much easier to remove when one does break.

I have found that the studs do not like air powered disassembly and tend to get thread distortion. Always oil the stud and washer and torque to no more than 18#
