For those older folks that did FA - his team won the FA Championship with Johnny O'Connell back when it meant something in the mid 80's with Ricky Cameron as Mechanic. He also had spells with an number of IMSA teams (Momo especially) in the early 80's as Team Manager, Crew chief etc. and I believe F1 before that. Retired from the sport after Indy Lights in the 90's after running a number of the big names
Great guy and a real character - one of a breed of 'down -under' mechanics that worked his a-- off that does not seem to exist today.

I remember going into his "shop" in S.California and found a retail location unlike anything I had seen before in a race business. And it was on "main street".
He had a small portion in the back dedicated to race car work, otherwise, it was a strictly retail location.
He brought the Pulsar batteries into the country, which was the first big step from the type of battery we had been using prevoiusly. It had it's limitations but was quite light, had voltage that could really "kick" the starter over and may have still been around to this day, but someone thought they knew better. Once production had production moved to the US, it lasted less then 2 years after that, it just wasn't the same part.
Another very interesting person I've met because of racing.
Sorry to hear of his passing.

So sorry to hear about this. I ran with Alistair for a couple years in Indy Lights. Fun guy to work with and nothing seemed to get him off his game. I crashed in Detroit in my first event with him and they worked all night to fix the car and we finished ninth after an incredible effort.

    RIP Alistair
