Anyone using external mic on Reply camera

I really like the video quality u get with my ReplyXd 1080 camera but would like more engine \ exhaust tone. Had anyone had success using an external mic? Any draw backs?

Did on a GoPro.

Had 2 mono microphones wired to the stereo external plug picking up the exhaust on my Vette. Much better than wind.... and the mics were better quality.

kind of sort of... my replay mini is on the top of the air inlet / roll hoop and I have an old 1st gen GoPro on the rear of the car. I sync and overlay the GoPro audio because it is right near the trans and tailpipe.

even without that though, the sound on the replay is quite good with the tape over the mic.
