Forwarded from the S2 Web Site as posted by Carl Correll...

"A truck, trailer, and Swift FA were stolen from the Super 8 at I 5 and Hwy 58 around 2AM today. Just a reminder to secure your stuff when parked on the road. I use a stout cable through the trailer wheels myself. Be looking for a really good deal on a race car, or parts. "

Be carefull everyone...

Amen to that Mr. Hall

I use a Master coupler lock through the coupler latch and one of the types that you put in the ball hole in the coupler and lock it also. Master and Gorilla make those.

If you really want to secure it, take 2 wheels off of it. But that is a lot of work.

We used to do that with boats.

My dad always said "locks are to keep honest people honest, not keep crooks out".

Did the trailer have yellow and blue graphics on the sides, with big images of a blue formula car? If so, I think I know where it is.

Honest, I have witnesses, I was in Florida at 2 am last night.

OBTW, that Master trailer lock did not keep Laterra's trailer from vanishing last month.

I follow DaveW's advice; avoid parking in motel lots. If you do, you almost have to have someone sleep in it.

Here is a little story from personal experience. I was the victim of an insurance scam involving my tow vehicle, trailer and racecar. While traveling down the I-5 in the slow lane a driver in a mid-70's Impala started to drive irraticly in front of me while his partner in a Ford Escort paced me on the left. Every time I slowed down the Escort did the same and wouldn't let me over. At about 50 mph on reletively clear freeway the Impala locked his brakes and I plowed right into the back of him. I don't think these two genuses realized what a 1 ton dually pulling around 5k lbs was going to do them. The passenger got sent through the windshield and the rear bumper ended up where the rear seat used to be. Needless to say my dually, trailer and racecar all suffered substantial damage. My insurance fixed the truck and trailer but not anything inside the trailer, which of course included my car. Why? Because the trailer is directly conected to the truck but the contents were not. I don't know how a theft is determained but if the same logic holds I'd bet you wouldn't be covered for anything in your trailer if it and the truck were stolen.

Don't you guys have tow, pit & paddock insurance? I've sent in for it and its $250 a year- covers everything but the car on the track.

$15,000 on the car w/ a $250 deductible, & $5,000 on the trailer with a $500 deductible. Total annual premium is $250.

Contents of the trailer might be covered under your homeowners policy but, nothing having to do with the car. Tools, Tents, etc, might be covered.

Off track coverage is a good idea.

Sean: With regards to your insurance coverage, does it cover the contents of the trailer (tools, tires, spare parts, etc.) in addition to your FC?

No- I think it just covers the trailer itself. I suppose a homeowners policy might cover the spares- I might videotape everything I've got in it.
I'll give them a call Friday and find out.

Your home owners policy would only cover it if it were parked at your house. If it were stolen from the track you would be SOL. I have Farmers insurance for my home owners and they wouldn't cover my race car, if it was stolen from my house, unless it had a Califronia Green sticker(that is bacically an off-road vehicle license).

My State Farm guy says that as long as the trailer is connected to the truck, it is covered for any damage or loss subject to the deductable. I need to check about the race cars. You raised a good point. Thanks

Yes you can I did it on FF. You give them the serial number on the chassis and a bill of sale and they will issue you one. The green sticker is just an off-road license. You would think that all FM's would automatically come with one considering how often they are "off-road".

Unless you are paying a separate extra premium for physical damage on your trailer you need to get a new State Farm agent quick.

Sean,
I did the parishheacock deal this week. They said their coverage does NOT cover the trailer. They were quoting me the "STP" plan. It covered the racecar in my Shop, in Transit, and in the Paddock. Thus STP. $250 / year.

All,
Trailers are covered by the towing vehicle's insurance... BUT only to a limit. On my current State Farm policy it would only pay up to $500. for damage to the trailer Unless I go ahead and tell them more details and purchase extended coverage (rider).
OBTW, my fancy homeowners policy completely covers my shop, but not the racecar inside the shop.
