    Default Trailer tires

I have a 2010 United Trailers 20' enclosed car hauler that came with Trail Express ST205/75D15 tires, which have now developed some small cracks in the sidewalls. Two questions: (1) should the cracks be a cause for concern/immediate replacement of the tires; and (2) if so, do you have any suggestions on a good replacement tire? Related to the second question: are there any brands that should be avoided? Thanks for any information/suggestions.

    David:

Tires sound like they are dry rotting. I'd suggest you replace them as it's less costly in the long run. I had a tire blow and it took out a piece of trim work and it could have been much worse.

I'm pretty sure all the trailer tires, except for some select Carlisle tires, available today are made in China. I have Loadstar trailer tires and they are fine. Plan on new tires, particularly if your trailer is stored outside, about every 2-4 years. Maximum load range I've found in your size (same as my trailer) is a "D" load range. I'd stick with that.

+1 for replacing trailer tires on a regular schedule. I've heard every two-three years, have never made it to three before something forced the decision.

    Get rid of them.

I have had good luck with the Carlisle USA Trail line.

I use the same size on my trailer and have gone lots longer than the typical recommended replacement period of 4 years by the tire store guy.

I am not recommending this, just saying I have had good luck with them.

Rural King usually carries them if you have one near you.

    Default Maxxis ....#1

I have purchased and used Maxxis from Discount Tire w/ road insurance since changing from the originals Good~Years- since 2009 -- 100% - two (2) road hazard incidents/claims - new tires sent under "warranty" NO QUESTION - I recently bought a new set/4 as I like to change every four+- years (depending on mileage) no matters what and I keep them covered with R/V tire covers --with out a doubt I am over 100% happy -

P.S. I keep the tires off the dirt and built paver pads on concrete in the side grass yard for the tires and tongue -- AND a tire clamp that covers lugs nuts and tongue locks to keep it my trailer
