    Default Possibe DROPBOX scam

    A word to all.

I received an email from Group A Racing saying it had shared some Dropbox files with me. Opening it (on my phone) I get a message from Microsoft that this site had a scam warning associated with it.

    I'm just sayin' . . . .

There is something going around with that...I got one from Mike Rand a week ago and Gmail put a notification up top so I did not open it.

I work with security software firms and if you get a message like this that sounds too good to be true, or if you are not expecting anything, then it's most likely a phishing scam.

Just label it as junk email. Another way to check would be to change the email format to text only. This prevents the downloading of the pretty pictures, but also exposes the true URL that the script kiddies are trying to get you to click. If the link doesn't match the domain of the email address, then it's a scam and do not click that link.

With some of the browsers you can either hover or right-click on the sender's name and their real address pops up.

See, the difference here is that I know Rand couldn't pull off something as technical as

sending pictures on his computer so I didn't open it.

Many apologies to all who apparently I sent this damn thing to.
I got it from a trusted friend who might indeed have sent files or whatever , so, like Jonathon Scarello at Group A, I to clicked on it and bang zoom, there you go.
It locked up my Outlook program so I couldn't even send an alert to everyone in the address book to not open the stupid thing !
That all said after shutting everything down and letting the computer sit for over half a day when getting back on it seemed nothing was wrong and several programs to detect and delete this crap came up empty handed so once again I am totally stumped.
Admittedly not that it takes much !
So I am sorry, and Agnif, you are correct, I am at the level of posting and emailing, even testing, but that is the sum total of my electronic communication "skills"....
Charles is spot on as he has a tendency to be !

This... Don't open it unless you're expecting it. If in doubt, send a separate email to the individual asking if they intended on sending something.

Wouldn't it be just safe to assume anything from Rand is spam or a virius?

    Sorry Mike.

    Default Me too...

We also got that from Mike. Since I don't have dropbox, I thought it might be for my wife who does, so I sent it to her. She clicked on the link, and got no apparent response, so she deleted the email and thought nothing of it.

A day later, her email address started sending out the same thing to others. I received one and responded to her saying she got hacked, but she did not get this response. Therefore in doing that, I likely sent my email address to the hackers.

So now we have both changed email passwords. Hopefully that fixes that.

    Default scam

    Dave,
I got one from her address today.
Luckily I've been reading about this on Apexspeed, so I did not open it and deleted it.
