Van Dieman is ALIVE! Ford is DEAD

Van Dieman alive, I'm not that all surprised.
Over the history of amateur single seater racing, when new vehicles have entered the fray, that hasn't completely shut out the older ones (particularly if the have good car count numbers) from being successful.
Of course Ford is dead. The Rand 1600 series wasn't designed for a Ford to do anything but help their numbers in the first years.
And SCCA is following their lead.
Same as was done for Toyota over Ford (Cosworth) in the days of F/Atl.
But in 2011 when the Honda had a 31mm plate the Fords did pretty good it seems. Its a cost VS fun factor thats all. A Ford can still win.

Notice how similar the fast cars are.
The fundamental rules have not changed for FF or FC. The differences are only small details and refinements. That is true for my cars, VDs and the other fast cars.
At the end of the day, this is good because what really count are good preparation, good setups and good driving.
These 2 classes are probably the last place to practice real race car engineering. Everywhere else you are given a car and told to race what you are given.
I also think that this is one of the best places for driver training. Setup is critical and drivers have to learn setup and how to tune that setup.
Do your homework and you can succeed with 20 year old cars.
I wouldn't write off the Ford just yet. A certain two time champ has gone back to the blue ovel.

Is Van Diemen or Élan still making new cars?
In my opinion, and it IS only my opinion, the Kent cars must be nearly maxed out, whereas I would think the Honda guys will continue to find incremental gains through their ongoing development. Things like gearing and CofG must be different.
For now I will continue to try to find speed in the old sled.

How about 2-3 weeks ago at the same location when Benson won in a Kent against two time SCCA National Champ in a Honda?
If you are referring to Tim Kautz in his Piper/Honda, that had nothing to do with engines. John was on rain tires & Tim was on slicks. It was raining enough for wets at the beginning of the race but dried out before the checker. IMHO, Tim drove a hellava race, & I'm sure some others that were there would agree.

P.S. Tim is a 3 time national champion
Tim is going back to a Ford? I find that hard to believe unless there would be some sort of unusual incentive to do so.
The Ford isn't dead? Well for those who are giving it mouth-to-mouth power to them, but I am not one. It has flat-lined on the operating table and has a DNR order from SCCA.
I'll take a prepped Honda...any day, at any track, over any ford there is.
Lou Cooper just switched, and with all respect to Lou, I'm sure economical factors were the last consideration.
Not sure but aCcording to the time sheets LC3 was running the VD Kent on Sunday vs the Spectrum Honda on Friday/Saturday. Pics look ,like the Spectrum though. I will trade my Honda car for his Kent any day. I believe with a certain shoe in that car ran an incredible time on Thursdays practice in the AM on lap 4...it flew by me while I was passing another Spectrum between 5-6. Both Spectrum & VD that LC3 drives look very similar btw. Polestar has made some changes it seems.
With that said I don't know another car I could compare to his package with a Kent in it.
Steve Adams is 100% correct that guys running the Honda will continue to find some speed here or there. The Kent has many more years of development already.
If you are buying a new car it will be a Honda, no doubt about it.

We just put a Honda in Bill's car, but only because we liked the Honda HPD stickers better than the Ford Racing stickers.
