What colour are you painting it?what number have you got/choosing ?
Thanks shane.
Frank were doing a silver and red like the blackhole. (silver is the german national racing color)
there will be diagonal slashes running from the front nose to the tail of the car. Im hoping to get either number 2 or 3 for the car.
I would like to be #1 because that was my number growing up in karts. (my lucky number) although i cant because that number is reserved for the champion. Although nobody has used it in years in f1200.

your floor seems a tad small, and appears to have casters on the bottom of it!?

It has that KEVlar look
Nice work so far.
So...why a BRD?
It weighs far less than the blackhole. With the Blackhole and my Fat a$$ in it we were close to 50lbs over weight. With the BRD we will be on min weight so we should be far more competitive. Also changing engines in a BRD we can do in 45 mins as opposed to 2-3 hours so if anything would ever happen we wouldn't miss the second race in the day. Also we will eventually want to rent out the Blackhole at some point. Why Kevin you don't like the BRD ?? For me I don't care what I drive as long as it is fast. Not to mention no matter what Formula Vee you get... to me they are all ugly.

RF93 Van Diemen FF1600
LOL.
Its just that I seem to spend a great deal of time behind them.
I'll admit that I prefer the seating position in the BRD...but the Womer seems to suit me a bit better.
Didn't realize the weight difference. It just seems the leading arm cars are consistently at the front (a generalization, I know). I would have though you'd go the Protoform route.
Agreed on the engine access. BRD's seem to have a better arrangement.
Wiring All done. Pedals are in. Fuel Cell and Firewall mounted. Shifter linkage in. Next steering shaft, and front beam.

What fuel cell do you have?
Steering Shaft and wheel installed. Brake lines are plumbed. Front suspension mounted. Please don't just look, comment... I know you want too!!!!!!!

Chrome turkey legs and chrome shocks!!!Are the shocks carreras?Altogether it all looks very shiny and capable of winning the, keep the photos coming.
Yes they are Carerras. The turkey legs came off of the original beam that was on the Blackhole.

if there's one mod i would do to a BRD chassis to potentially improve the chassis roll stiffness is to fab some bars that attach from the main roll hoop and run to the upper trans housing bolts.
it's a known modification to make on that chassis, i know it's been done to a few out there. I think Guy B may have something like that on his BRD??
I would create some sort of removable bars similar to what is found on a protoform. Being removable you could test the difference in handling.
i wasn't a big fan of how much chronic understeer I would get in hot to very hot conditions on the Kumho's (there's a lot of chassis roll/flex in the BRD), something like this and proper suspension adjustments to accomodate stiffness changes may help cure that and develop more potential mechanical grip.

We have already welded the tabs on. if you look just under the your green lines the tabs are there.

Blackhole,
The car really is looking nice and the rear down-rods would be an added safety for
the rollbar. I would also consider adding additional side intrusion bars as you have
a large gap between the upper and lower bars.
Keep the photo's coming!

Yes, I have added these braces, having seen them on a Mitchell Bros BRD that had passed through Ray Carmody’s hands. So I can’t take credit.
The braces certainly make a difference; I found that they improved the drive out of slow corners. They can be quickly removed so they really don’t slow down engine removal, which I can do in about 20 minutes.
If you are going to have the oil cooler in the standard position (which I would recommend on a BRD), make sure you have it fitted when you make up the right hand brace.
Guy.
Thanks Kevin! Those bars is exactly what we already made up. Thanks for the picture!
This weekend... Gearbox install and rear suspension mounting. Than paint the body!!!! Yay I love sanding!!!

I have just the song for your new BRD,in the 70s I saw this band a few times HAWKWIND....playing "Silver Machine" great fun times live with them ...original grunge band way before Nirvana etc, etc.Just watched it on You-Tube,man! what drug /boozing induced memories it all brings backyou cant beat CLASSIC ROCK era.
Just found MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE by them too!!!!bloody great memories!!Wooo Hooooooooooooo...flashbacks......Sorry about that kids, forgot its a racing forum for a minute there back to Barry Manilow cds(as beer mats of course).
Frank are you growing out your hair again to relive your glory days????? You should know by now that Miley Cyrus came through with her wrecking ball and wiped out the 60's and 70's. Everyone else has moved on from the 60's and 70's... oh wait Formula Vee didn't. You fit right in Frank. Sorry couldn't resist!!!!!

What are you using for the intrusion panels? Looks like carbon but what thickness and is it cored or laminated with anything else?
Thanks
Mark Filip
It's just aluminum with carbon fibre vinyl (sticker).
