Individual HPD parts

I'm currently not an SCCA member so can't create an HPD account. I'm wondering if they have a break down of individual parts for a Fit install? Specifically at the moment the engine conversion kit (less the motor itself)?

Yes and no.
Virtually every part is available individually. Then they put different kits together, with package pricing for different applications. If you have anything different than standard Swift or Van Diemen, it gets incredibly complicated very quickly. You really have to work with a staffmember to decipher what you need and the prices. To complicate it further, they recently rearranged the kits. I recently got a price for the engine kit and it was $2K more than it had been ..... which after some investigation ..... was because the kit now included different components. After 3 years, I still struggle to figure it out, as do the people that work there

Once you struggle through the process, it is a really cool finished installation. It does take some time, patience, and is not cheap.

HPD told me it is cheaper to buy a kit where many parts do not fit my car because the price of a the parts I need for my chassis outside the kit is too expensive. The pricing for this will ruin the class for many because it is too expensive. A 20k Honda engine change makes for many many years of rebuilding a Kent. The worst problem is a Kent is not competitive with the Honda at 30.5 MM restrictor. I have parked my cars because of it.

Motor kit NOT including engine, NOT including chassis parts comes out to just over $8800. This is current within the last month. Seemed brutally overpriced to me, but what recourse did I have, except not to buy it and cut a Flintstone hole in the floorpan? They kind of have us over a barrel.

Oh well. At least I got a really nice $8000 hat.

So the total HPD upgrade (if thats the right word) is not far of a zetec conversion?

5050 to 8800 is a big increase on the engine conversion kit. What's different now?

Yes, I freaked out when I was quoted that price too. As I pointed out above, they rearranged the kits. That now includes the chassis loom package which was previously in the chassis kit. The parts and kits, when adjusted for rearrangement, have only increased several per cent since the program began. The crate engine did go up $500.

The chassis kit price came down the same amount as the engine kit went up. The original engine kit included all the parts you would need if you already had a converted car. The current kit includes all the engine-related parts that will be required in an initial conversion or build. It is more logical now. Unfortunately, as Ethan and I discovered, the staff does not seem to understand the different packaging, and their presentation presents some "sticker" shock.

I would have bought the parts last spring as I has already purchased an engine. HPD was not very helpful and kind of put me off. I think this could have been a great thing for the class and the open wheel ladder. But I think at this point all things considered it has made me and many others consider another class. To have this kind of cost to convert to me is ridiculous for club racing. It will cause many to go to other classes. Look at the numbers they have fallen every year since the Honda was introduced. Even their PRO series is hurting for entries.
