That car was in bad shape. We were pitted between those two teams and the car looked very second hand when it came back on the wrecker.
The woman (in whites) had her back to the main danger. Glad she's OK.
Does seem to be a poor choice for the stand.... Very fortunate that everyone was OK ! The dynamics of crash never cease to amaze. Unpredictable, at best.

I'm trying to figure out why the guy in the white Porsche moved right and hit him so hard. Entrance to the uphill esses is a tricky place to pass if you don't have someone real clean (and you don't know if they'll turn into you) but I have no idea why the guy on the inside would move over so hard. It's like he'd only ever been around the track a few times, forgot where it went, and suddenly decided he needed to be on the right side of the track...
Best regards,
Eric

The car on the outside was being lapped and was not far enough to the right. I think this caught out the Miller Porsche as he moved slightly to the right. It looks like a more assertive move to the right but i don't think it was. Almost like two open wheel cars getting locked to together. Just a racing incident that turned sour pretty quickly. As was mentioned above race cars can up in some unlikely places.
My one question is looking at the aerial view the only exit from that station is towards the track, everywhere else has a tire wall around it. So IF the car hadn't turned when it did (can see where the corner of the gazebo was taken out) where could they have gone to avoid it?

The stand does not need to be moved. They just need to put up the catch-fencing that WGI has to protect their stands.
Notice how fast the chief marshall was on his feet and radioing in the situation.

Yes, he should have been a little further over. These kind of things only get over analyzed when it goes wrong I guess. As we all know things happen very quickly. The car that rolled had a good sized hole punched in the floor too.
Being lapped (GTC) or not the GT car should have had some patience in making the pass. Again its fast and things can happen but it looks like the GT car just expects the slower GTC car to give him the room. Very Scary.
Also the woman marshal wow she was very lucky, the camera man, holy cow.
