FAIRFIELD, N.J. (December 24, 2002) — The Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship has announced its 14-race 2003 east coast schedule.
With sanctioning from SCCA Pro Racing, the east coast Zetec Championship schedule will feature seven doubleheader race weekends on North America’s premier race tracks.
The season commences March 13-14, racing in conjunction with the American Le Mans Series at Sebring International Raceway, as part of the world renowned Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
Following an early season break, the series resumes April 26-27, at Virginia International Raceway. As part of the VIR Speedfest, the Zetec Championship will race in conjunction with SCCA Pro Racing on the challenging 3.27-mile road course.
On Memorial Day weekend, the series travels to Lime Rock Park for the first time since 1994. Taking part in the traditional The Mohegan Sun Presents the Lime Rock Grand Prix, the Zetec Championship will run in conjunction with SCCA Pro Racing on the 1.53-mile road course.
Rounds Seven and Eight mark the series return to the picturesque Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the first of two visits in 2003. Racing in support of the Grand-American Road Racing Association, the Zetec Championship will use the 2.25-mile track configuration.
The weekend of August 3, the series returns to Road America after a one-year hiatus. Racing in conjunction with the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford, the Zetec Championship will race on the 4.0-mile road course.
The series then follows the Champ Car World Series to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, August 16-17. This marks the seventh time the series has run in support of the Champ Car World Series at Mid-Ohio.
After a month long break, the 2003 season concludes at the Petit Le Mans. Racing on the historic 2.50-mile Road Atlanta road course for the twelfth time in series history, the Zetec Championship will race in conjunction with the American Le Mans Series.
“I am very excited about bringing the future stars of motorsports to North America’s premier tracks in 2003,” said series owner Jon Baytos. “It is our belief that we not only provide the best training for the open-wheel stars of tomorrow, but also showcase some of the best racing in North America.”
