    Default 1965 Indy 500

So, I've recorded all of the old races and watched a few this week. In the 1965 race, the announcer said that they had 90 entries. In the 1969, they had 60.

All of the different makes, models, engines...how cool.

I'm still a 500 fan. But the vanilla racing it offers with spec cars takes away from the sport. I would imagine that people much smarter than I could create a F1000 type series for the pro's.

Yes, and back then they used to get 200,000 people packing the place for pole day too!

it didn't help that right about the time of the split they took the party away. Seems that the families and the filthy rich didn't want to rub elbows with the drunks and hooligans.

They needed to tone it down a little, but people who used to buy GA tickets and party in the infield when they were 20 are the folks who buy seats in the stands when they're 35.

Chip away at the foundations enough and all you have left are the traditions and a lot of hot air.

I didn't have a chance to watch qualifying this year, but was shocked at how empty the place was on bump day - and after they reduced qualifying to two days to boot!
