I have an open trailer that I've been using, but I'd like to add a tire rack before the Northeast season starts. Anyone have a few pictures they can post of designs. Any tips one doing it on the cheap?
Thanks!

How about a simple 'open' metal tube box mounted just above the car in the front ? Simple sguare tubing, ez welds. Run a rachet strap thru tires/wheels to hold in place ? Weld in a few diagnol braces ....

Even simpler: Bolt a square steel tube vertically onto each trailer beam forward of the car, slip a PVC pipe over each tube to prevent scratches, slide one front and one rear wheel+tire on each post, and ratchet strap in place through the wheel spokes.

FYI one option for a little security against "grab and go" theft is to use something like this and a padlock or two as needed. Run the cable through the wheels and loop around the frame.

I use a similar cable around an axle to the open trailer frame to "discourage" joy rides during overnight stops. The trailer ramps and a couple of built in storage boxes and the cables all use keyed alike padlocks for convenience.

thanks guys. I think I can copy those for quite a bit less money. They are not too complicated. I've got half an idea todo it with 2x4's and bolts

Many moons ago we hauled with an open trailer. I welded up this tire rack after i'm sure i stole the idea from someone else.
Two 2" sqare tubes form a cradle the tires sit in. Through the centers of the wheels was a 1" steel pipe with a pvc pipe slipped over it to prevent damage to the wheel center holes. The steel pipe had a leg welded on it at one end tha could be padlocked to the frame. At the other end was a 3' long 1/2" steel pipe with a leg welded on it. The 2' pipe was slid through the wheel centers after they were on the rack, then the little pipe was slipped into the big pipe from the other side, and both legs were locked to the frame.
Cheap and worked for years.
If tongue weight is an issue, mount it so that it crosses over the cockpit just ahead of the rollhoop.
OBTW, a pickup toolbox across the front of the trailer provided a lot of dry storage.

I made a folding rack by bolting together Home Depot perforated steel angle, and EMT for the Horizontal pieces. The EMT bolts on with 1 or 2-hole straps. I used chain and S-hooks instead of the folding steel straps.
Senor Purple Frog to the rescue! Perfect, that's exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks!!!
Thanks to Stephen. Your solution beats $350 racks any day in my book.
For those as ignorant as I: Hole straps

And EMT is Electro mechanical tube or what some would call conduit
Sorry if I have seemingly hijacked the thread
