Thanks Marc, that's the SCCA release, and word is they are getting lots of interest so the 2013 Runoffs might just be on of the better ones in recent memory. I have not attended, not even spectating or trolling or working for quite a while now, I'm sure there is much different and have heard all about being ready to throw $50 bills in every direction as soon as you get into Sheboygan County.
I was hemming and hawing because the NARRC Runoffs is the same weekend, a fun end of season regional double points weekend, literally 5 miles from home. Talking with Mike Eakin about all this and he verbally slapped me around, something like this:
"Rand, there will be a NARRC Runoffs in 2014, there will be a NARRC Runoffs in 2015, there will be a NARRC Runoffs in 2016, but there is just this one 50th anniversary of the original Runoffs, so try to not be stupid and get the trailer ready for a long haul in September".
Boy, sometimes he is really really right.........
Given the annual trophy for the F1600 Champion is called the ......

(suggestions ?)
So Mike, If you can get 20 Master's car's do they get there own run group Hope you feel better.
After I quit racing cars ( 5 kids to put through college), I raced single and double skulls, row boats. In rowing they have a masters division that assigns handicaps based on age.
Using rowing as an example and applying that handicap system to racing for both the drive and the car, we can setup a masters ranking for each race.
Rowing reduces a competitor's race time by the formula: drivers age minus 27 squared and multiplies by .02. Using Mike Rand we get (65-27)^2 *.02 or 28.88 seconds. That would be 29 seconds for the race distance. 27 is the age of masters in rowing. For Mike's car lets say the formula is (31-5)^2*.02 for 13.5. Combined Mike and his car get 28.9 + 13.5 or 42.4 seconds for the race.
I am going to assume that Mike does not need a handicap to keep up on the yellow flag laps so le'ts divide the 42.4 by the number of race laps. For a 20 lap race with 17 green laps Mike would get 2.12 seconds per green lap or 36.04 seconds removed from his race time.
In rowing the system works very well. In most cases, the results will windup being very close with only an occasional switch of positions. If the handicaps were perfect everyone would finish in a dead heat given that every driver drove a perfect race.
hope they have a 107%rule last thing we need out there is 20 moving shcaines
Hey Warp - this is America where we like mixed classes and 120% is the norm. I have a plan that will change your mind in considering club fords moving chicanes. It's called the: MASTERS PLAN
It would go by this example
- All club fords will grid at the back of the field regardless of qualifying position.
- In a 15 lap race all FF would be required to complete 15 laps and all club fords would be required to complete 14 laps.
- Checker flag will fly after the first FF finishes 15 laps or a CF finishers 14 laps.
- Final points would be awarded on finishing position of all combined cars.
You see if you are passing a club ford it would be for position not as a nuisance. You will also be able to hone your passing skills in the process.
How's that for imagination Rand?
Jason, this is perfect! If we can get Rand to do this I will do the whole season! Money in the bank Rand!
first or all this is suppose to be a pro series if your not close to the p1 speed you will be in the way . at limerock youll start lapping old guys on lap 2, second what critieia do you base a pro car verse a club car (if your car is old enough to vote its a club car)
Club ford criteria per the north east region. Regarding old and slow I have seen Rand vote competitors off the island when he felt they were a hazard.
dont get me wrong im not saying that masters shouldnt race , but theres got to be some receipe to draw a line where club cars are left to club racing
Warpspeed...Dont take it too seriously. I really don't expect any of this to happen (any of this thread) other than what the series announced...I think there are just people (me) having fun with it
While in all seriousness I do think it is a good idea to allow people to race under the Masters designation regardless of drivers age IF their car is 85 and older. I don't think it will actually happen. I do think it would help car counts, especially those with DB-1's. If Ferrari and McLaren have to deal with cars several seconds off the pace like the HRT, Caterham, etc then I think all is fair.
So are the Master's Class cars going to have a special sticker to tell them apart from the kids? I am sure this group can come up with some very creative ideas. Perhaps Geritol or Viagra could sponsor the class as well.
Mike (warpspeed- really??), my "other" car is not only old enough to vote, but old enough to legally drink alcohol and you had better bring your "A" game if you think you can even stay anywhere near it. Especially when they handicapped the Hondas with the smaller restrictor.
John
The real goal here is to get the Formula F fields up to 40 cars per race. And if that takes a masters program to do, then who is the looser? The other option is to go back and race SCCA club events only.
I'm a little curious as to how many guys plan on showing up with "club" cars, especially now since I'm piperless, and one of them. also, this year, we'll be carrying sponsorship from Ensure and Depends
and.....not to stir the pot but, although I've only been to a few F1600 races, i can say that there's a few old farts in "club" cars pedaling faster than some in "pro" cars.
from a different thread....JRII...glad you're ok
Remember the possibilities. I put Andy in my 1979 Crossle35F for the VIR F1600 races last year and he finished in the top 10 both days. We were disappointed to not finish top 5!
Kevin
Crossle 35F
Van Diemen RF02
Love you dad but wasn't top 10 both days....coulda woulda shoulda the second day but the point remains the same
Bardwell has run top ten as well with a CF so it can definitely be done.

Just like the Walter Hayes Trophy event in the UK is overshadowing the Brands Hatch Festival, this masters class has great potential.
The first name that came to my head was a true sportsman, who took time to teach at SCCA driver schools, gave his used national "take offs" tires to regional drivers who asked for them, won a couple of SCCA FF Championship RunOffs events, and died way too early.
I propose the "Bruce May Trophy"
How about the May-Loring trophy?
