In 2003, the CENDIV Regional Championship series has mandated a spec tire for Formula Ford. Even though all eight EWC races are also CENDIV Regional Championship events, the spec tire rule only affects FF drivers registered for the CENDIV Regional Championship. If you are not contesting the CENDIV Regional Championship, you may use any GCR-legal FF tire in the EWC.

All drivers running for the CENDIV Regional Championship must register with the series points keeper. Entries for all GCR-legal FF’s will be accepted by all regions hosting CENDIV Regional Championship series races regardless of the driver’s registration status.

As posted on the CENDIV web site, here are the CENDIV Regional Championship FF regulations:

    A. All Formula Fords will be subject to compliance with all SCCA, GCR, and Formula Car Specifications pertaining to Formula Ford.

    B. The spec slick tire for FF shall be Hoosier R60. Also, any tire that Hoosier manufactures and sells as a racing rain tire may be used. These shall be the only tires eligible for all timed sessions. An exception for rain tires in 2003 only: any brand of tire manufactured and sold as a racing rain tire for Formula Ford may be used. In order to be eligible for the Hoosier year end points fund, drivers must display three Hoosier decals, one on the front and one on each side between the wheel positions on each car and be registered in the Cen-Div Championship Series. Contact your Hoosier dealer for decals.

    C. These rules are to be considered an addendum to the Supplemental Regulations for an event. Any infraction by or protest of any competitor with regards to these rules will be judged under the GCR.

    D. Additional questions should be referred to the Cen-Div Champ Series Formula Ford rules Liaison: John Welch (800)621-9223 x8980.

The objective of the EWC is to increase car counts. The objective of the FF spec tire rule is to reduce tire costs for CENDIV Regional Championship series contestants. There is no reason that both series cannot co-exist. How? Two EWC FF classes:

EWC “Regional” FF driver championship points will be awarded to drivers eligible and registered for the CENDIV Regional Championship series. Per the CENDIV Regional Championship points system, unregistered drivers will simply “disappear” when points are awarded. For example, if unregistered FF drivers finish 1-2-3-4, a fifth place registered FF driver will be awarded first place CENDIV Regional Championship and EWC Regional FF points.

EWC “National” FF driver championship points will be awarded to all other FF drivers in order of their finishing positions, minus CENDIV Regional Championship cars.

EWC team championship points will be the sum total of FF Regional, FF National, and CFF points.

Hoosier Racing Tire’s EWC contingency awards are based on their CENDIV Regional Championship support program. Therefore, only CENDIV Regional Championship registered drivers are eligible for Hoosier tires and end-of-season cash awards. All other FF and CFF EWC contingency awards will be based on overall finishing position regardless of CENDIV Regional Championship registration status.

Complete details on all EWC contingency award eligibility requirements will follow in separate posts.

In conclusion, there is something for everyone with a GCR-legal FF in the EWC. You can run the whole series on one set of spec tires, you can make a guest appearance on any tires you have, or anything in between.

Don’t forget to look elsewhere in this forum more information on both the EWC and the NEC. We all win when car counts are up.

I understand that there is still some confusion re: the EWC FF tire rules. My previous post on this topic was perhaps overly complicated. Here again are the important bits:

    (1) The CENDIV Regional Championship spec tire rule only affects FF drivers registered for the CENDIV Regional Championship.

    (2) If you are not contesting the CENDIV Regional Championship, you may use any GCR-legal FF tire in the EWC.

    (3) Entries for all GCR-legal FF’s will be accepted by all regions hosting EWC weekends.

    (4) EWC “Regional” FF driver championship points will be awarded to drivers eligible and registered for the CENDIV Regional Championship series.

    (5) EWC “National” FF driver championship points will be awarded to all other FF drivers.

    (6) EWC team championship points will be the sum total of FF Regional, FF National, and CFF points.

    (7) All FF and CFF drivers are eligible for EWC end-of-season contingency awards. Details on all EWC contingency awards are being finalized and will follow in separate posts.

So sorry for making this situation appear to be much more complicated than it really is. Please call or e-mail if you have any questions.

Don’t forget to look elsewhere in this forum more information on both the EWC and the NEC. We all win when car counts are up.

I think I get it. Too bad it has become so convoluted. The only unanswered question for me is who would be the actual official FF “race winner”? I imagine it would have to be the first GCR legal FF regardless of who they are or are not registered with. True?
