In that vein during the same race weekend (July 4, 2010 dbl nat'l), I was run off the road early in the 8AM 1st practice by a nominally very fast DSR that was going down the RH side of the main straight 30mph off the pace. He said he switched to the LH side of the road to give me room on the inside. Unfortunately I was already alongside him on the outside by the time he did that. And then he insisted, in a VERY confrontational manner, that I caused our slight contact "because I was passing him."

That was the penultimate straw. The wreck I described in my earlier post in the 1st race was the final one.

The large entry is a mixed blessing.

Great for the regions, bad for the drivers in the large groups.

It seems to be a result of the reduced number of national races on the schedule.

Used to be that Ne Ohio had a National at MO not that long ago, but it probably became financially not sensible. Cincy also had a national at MO that morphed into the Spec fest.

Then you had the INR curtain raiser at IRP as well as the Indy Grand Prix, both gone due to the demise of IRP.

There were long ago 3 Nationals at Nelson: Ne Ohio, MVR and IIRC Steel Cities, now down to one.

The economy caused these races to go away due to low entries. thus more entries at the nationals left.

Hopefully this trend will encourage other regions to get back in the National racing business.

    Default Thanks DaveW

As always Dave W has some great reasoning
to relate. I really feel terrible pulling
Out of the race, but after doing this for
Many years my brain gets the better
    Of my impulses.
I looked at the entries and realized that
For me it wouldn't be worth the expense
Or risk. It is unfortunate because if
They had opened up a fc, fe, fm race
Group it would have been a total blast !
    But that didn't happen.
I hope that next year this is corrected.
I remember running with Dave W and Mark
D at IRP many years ago when first starting
In FC. I was intimidated but the racing was
Clean and fun. I believe Dave W set the
IRP track record of 1:29 in that race.
Anyway, it saddens me to see folks
    Pull out of a race.

I spoke at length with john peterson last night and it seems that a split start is all he is willing to do. I begged him to move s2000 to srf at the very least but his contention is that there is to much speed differential and it is to late to inform them. I would withdraw as well and go to new jersey but i just switched from ne div to gl div last week. regards, jeremy hill

One Formula has two FE's here that aren't entered yet. We would have had three, but for the grouping/number of entrants.

Why don't you come out this weekend and join me at the Milwaukee Mile? Low stress, low cost......

    Are you entering the Sprints?

Nah, The Milwaukee venue doesn't really have that much appeal to me. Not sure on the Sprints just yet... We haven't submitted anything up to this point so our parking options are pretty much hosed I'm thinking. We'll see though... Entries for the Sprints are pretty pathetic. People may have gotten fed up with Road America.

Me neither, but I need to take the car out and make sure everything's OK after hosing down T5 at the Cat last year. Looks OK so far, but you never know until you get it on track.

Same here - got a kid graduating high school next week, business is WAY up, lots of competing priorities. Ditto on the RA/Chicago Region issues - don't want to pay them anything for a parking spot anyway. At least they ditched the "spec fuel" ripoff for us this year....

Other than the rain and cold, not bad. everyone did well.

    no metal to metal.
Jim Downing did get sideways on the back straight and did some aerobatics, but driver is ok and car might get fixed for the weekend.

If it is raining - it's easy when you hit a 'river' get sideways and have some agricultrual action.

He had a rear wing failure. The wing fell to the ground and it spun him around. When the car came around the front end lifted up did a flip landed in the grass then crossed the track sliding on the roll bar. When that car was vertical it looked like the rear of the car was 8' in the air.

Apologies to anyone's laps I may have messed up in Q2 and Q3 (Sun Q1)... oil sys failure managed to leave some mess off-line on the back straight in Q2 - not sure anyone would've noticed, it was so cold and slippery out there... seemed like there were double yellows in every other corner out there before the restart.

Friday was definitely a lousy day to be at the track...

Very exciting FE race from the announcing. Patrick wanted a win and I am glad my car had the ability with Jay Motorsports working on the setup and Patrick as a great driver.

Congrats to Michael Crowe in a Novak FB conversion, I wasnt there but I hear it was Mike's first race in the car. Way to go holding off a well known driver Jeremy Hill.

Hope more of you FB guys can go to the Sprints, only a few more days until early registration closes.

I have just glanced through severaal pages of this thread which express concerns about the multi class groupings which are now a mainstay of national racing. The concerns range from that of safety to diminished enjoyment of the event; all of which are legitimate concerns in my opinion. Looking at the wings and things group there are not enough cars in any of the classes to make a decent field. In fact it is downright pathetic.

    9 FE
    4 FM
    5 FA
    7 FC
    5 S2
    4 CSR
    7 DSR

The Majors will certainly make a great playground for the well subscribed classes, but several of those have good run groups regardless of the event.

Given the pushback on class consolidation we have exactly what we are asking for; get used to it and quit bitching.
