This sounds like one of the many ads I posted some forty years ago. Good luck in pursuing what empassions you!

PS: It all works out somehow.
Rob,
My best advice is to begin volunteering at the most professional race team you can. Rahal-Letterman-Lanigan (Indy/ALMS), Michael Shank (Grand-Am DP) and Intersport (IMSA Lites) are all near Cincy/Columbus and I'm sure there are others I'm not aware of, not to mention Indy is just a few hours away. Be willing to do anything, work hard, think ahead, learn quickly, and you may just land a paid internship. Even if you don't intern with a pro team, earning valuable internships in industry can be just as important, but don't forget about volunteering.
But that's only part of it...let's not forget academics. Keep your grades up! And, I'm a fan, graduate, and design judge of the FSAE program; it gives students the opportunity to apply what they're learning in school as well as an avenue to network with professionals throughout the industry. Also, I recommend graduate work. If you want to work in F1, it's almost necessary to earn your graduate degree in the UK (sad but true).
There are lots of ways to get into pro racing, the above route is roughly mine.
All the best in your search.
