I am currently pulling my motor for the first time and was wondering if you needed to drill out the rivets of the pan underneath the motor inorder to get to the bottom engine mounts?

I just put my motor in a 00 car today. If you have a long enough extension for the ratchet you can go in underneath the motor. Or you can loosen the oil pump to reach the nut. There are probably better and easier ways. You shouldn't have to drill out anything though.

Plus there are lengthy posts on this site explaining why you want that pan tightly bonded to the chassis rails for maximum frame strength.

Thanks guys, it seemed a little crazy to have to drill out the pan every time.

Agree. Long entension with a wobble socket, between the oil pump and pan below the engine.

I have (2) 1/2" holes through the aluminum belly pan at the lower motor mount locations for the 8mm bolt heads. Makes life very easy when changing engines.

    Have Fun
