We just picked up an engine last year that had a carb and intake manifold thrown on it. We installed everything on the motor just to get it together and run it for a few races and the car runs well, but is there any way to tell if the carb is any good? Is there a way to see if it has been blueprinted? Does blueprinting a carb really make a big difference at the SCCA Regional level? An anyone suggest a reputable shop or individual out there that does carb blueprinting at a reasonable price? Sorry for the machine-gun type quastion barrage...

Blueprinting a carb makes a big difference. And jetting and tuning that bblueprinted carb on your engine manifold combination makes an even bigger difference. A properly tuned and jetted carb will make a several horsepower difference especially on the 6K to 7K useful part of the powerband. Basically, you need to have the engine dynoed with your setup carb/manifold combo. I use Quicksilver but generally that is for a complete rebuild. There are a number of sublties to getting this correct so you really need to go to a 2 liter specialty engine builder. I would say that at the regional level it depends where you are racing. At a competitive regional series in the NE it is necessary to be properly dynoed to run up front and it is essential to run competitively at all nationally.
