I made a remark earlier in the week about driving in the pro series at age 68. (7 time National Champion DaveW)

Hanging around the Polestar reception area, and joking with Bill Jordan, it's easy to forget that he is over 70. Turning low 27s this weekend.

He has just bought a new set of bright yellow gloves (the better for Mark to see the team signals ), so I don't think he plans on retiring any time soon.

We have a large number of choices:

    Bill Munny
    Harry Callahan
    Robert Kincaid
    Philo Beddoe
    Monco
    Blondie
    Rowdy Yates
    Marshal Jed Cooper
    Red Hardigan
    Joe
    Joesy Wales
    Frankie Dunn
    Walt Kowalski
    Pardner
    Coogan
    Thunderbolt
    Thomas Highway
    Red Stovall

Clint had about 100 other character roles. I think "the Stranger" from High Plains Drifter may be the best fit.

At least he never played the Pied Piper.

Fair enough. The Stranger is a better than Pardner, at least.

As far as I know, that one's not taken, so you can have it.

Picture 1: Is he driving in the "klag" on the cool down lap, picking up marbles, to be sure he makes the minimum weight?

OOPS! You changed the pic, now my post is nonsense! (like so many others...)

The fast answer is Tom Schweitz, he won the first Road Atlanta race when it was the North Eastern F2000 Championship. But the correct answer is it's who ever won the West coast series first race under P&P Promotions, (Powell and Patterson).

I thought the first F2000 US pro race was at Bridgehampton in 1990 under USAC sanction? I thought you were in it. Remember,.....Langston against the tree on the pace lap. I was out there in some car I can't remember.

So then the answer to the question is that a total of 2 people remember who won that race. What are the odds that both of you would be in one thread or that Schwietz would still be alive?

Schwietz won the USAC pro series opener at Road Atlanta in 1992. The same year the SCCA sanctioned series started and ran races all over the US and in Canada. He was on quite a roll when he was young and slim. Six national victories and a Runoffs victory in '91 followed by 3 consecutive pro wins (one USAC and two SCCA). If I remember correctly he was the SCCA series runnerup to Greg Ray even though we missed two races. I don't remember the west coast series. So, does anyone remember that series and who won their race (and when?)?

You might be correct. That race at the Bridge might have been done before the West Coast started their series. That race was run with the RCCA and the driver that won that race was.........................................Chris Fahan.

Doesn't surprise me. He was winning a lot of races during that era. When did they stop racing at Bridgehampton?

IIRC Bridgehampton was closed in 99.

"Slim" means he was 220 lbs. vs. the 248 he is now.

Here's one from when he was still in the 230s, after being thoroughly vanquished by Pritchard and Winkler.

    Attachment 24980

As you can see, "slim" is a generous, relative term.

Please inform Tom that he has to revive the mustache, effective immediately. That thing is awesome.

You can also see how happy he looks to have finished third.

The moustache was in full effect for most of his life but has been gone since they starting enforcing the balaclava rule for facial hair.
