Default 2010 Race Video, San Francisco Region

Here's a little music video-type mashup made from footage from my FF's in-car camera, along with some trackside footage. Tracks are Laguna Seca, Sears Point (Infineon Raceway), and Thunderhill, all in the San Francisco Region.

    Default Video

Great Video. Looks like great racing and fun. I can only ask why we don't have FF turnouts like that in down here in Cal Club.

    Default Nicely done

Very nice job. What camera system and what editing program were you using? Just have to ask since I'm pretty disappointed with my results from Quick Time Pro.

Thanks. I used two different cameras/recorders. One is a SanDisk V-Mate, which is a kind of cheap solid-state DVR. I have a lipstick camera hooked up to it for input. The other is a Kodak Zi8, one of the newfangled solid-state camcorders.

The V-Mate is more convenient to mount in the car because it uses an external lipstick camera. The video quality is okay, but not great. And the user interface is designed for sitting on the couch in front of the TV, so it's a bit awkward for in-car. I don't think these are made anymore.

The Kodak Zi8 takes great high-def pictures. I'm actually surprised how good it looks. The thing is only as big as a deck of cards, but it's still awkward to mount on the car. It shakes and vibrates, and sticks up right in the airstream. It's also susceptible to rocks and dirt because it doesn't use an external lipstick camera input like the V-Mate.

Before either of these, I used to mount my old Sony 8mm camcorder inside the car between my knees, connected to an external lipstick camera. That was really bulky, and I always expected it to break apart, but the little Sony held together for years and still works fine. Amazing.

For software, I used Avid Pinnacle Studio on a PC. It's pretty good--better than I need--and seems to do the job. Now all I need is talent. ;-)
