    Default Hunt + Sheene

Nostalgic for '70s professional motor racing and naughty, substance abusing drivers/riders?

    Dig this... http://vimeo.com/18592054

That was great! I remember seeing him run the McLaren at the Glen. Boy how the tears have gone by.

Sometime in the late 70's or early 80's, Hermans Hermits came to town. I went to the concert becuase I knew the promoter, and had a feeling that attendance would be minimal. Well the crowd was light, so it became an "informal gathering" with music. After the concert, the Hermits mingled and while speaking to one of them, the topic of Hunt and Sheene was brought up. Now I wish I could remember the stories that I was told.

    Default great film clip

It was this era that so inspired me. I graduated high school in '77, couldn't afford to go racing until much later. The debauchery of the 70's went largely unnoticed until years later when a lot of people I looked up to and admired started dropping dead.

Anyways, these guys were the best of the best. And in their day they weren't just playboys, they were kings.

Not video, but I have a fair number of shots of Hunt in my Atlantic, F1 and People sets in my flickr stuff.

I came across a couple shots of Sheene at Long Beach in '77 recently...an invitational race...and when I get the time I'll scan and put them into my MotoGP set.

In the meantime, here's the link to my existing sets...

    Wow, fantastic video.

They need to make one on Eddie Irvine AKA Irv the Swerve. Need some more characters like these in F1 these days.

I wonder if we could have a dedicated section on this forum to gather all these great programs together. Along with the Hunt Sheene video there's a really good documentary on Williams in 1993 and the short lived F1 Lola Beartrice Ford turbo. This program features a very young looking Ross Brawn not to mention Kieth Duckworth, Alan Jones, Patrick Tambay to name but a few.

    Men,

You're welcome. I love this stuff too, it's a nice diversion away from todays pro racing that is so filled with BS. Simpler times for sure.
