    Default dash/data logger

Cheapskate me can't afford a new system.. I'll survive without one if I can't afford it, but thought I'd try and see what's hiding on apexspeed

I need it to work on a Vee, and to be affordable. I'd spend up to $500-600 for the right setup, hopefully less. I'd like to log/display RPM's, lap times, lateral g's (track mapping..) and hopefully, the potential for throttle/brake/steering type stuff later on. Won't need those right away but it sure would be great to have them eventually without swapping the whole system.

I'm thinking a Mychron3 gold/evo3 would be ideal, if someone has one kicking around. Maybe a racepak g2x? I don't necessarily mind Pi/Stack stuff, but it really needs to be complete with software and download cables, etc. 690 bucks for a USB cable is not really what I have in mind

Let me know if you've got something I might want

Thanks Maris - I'll wait to see if something with track mapping shows up, but if not, I might consider your setup!

Tiago, miss a race or two and with the entry fee and other expenses that you would have paid, pick up the used CDS copilot2+ system that is for sale. Add a few sensors and you have a very good system that can do track mapping and anything else you can possibly think of. And a GPS beacon setup is the bomb!

Be sure you understand the policy of any system supplier on software updates to those who are not the original owner. It can range from zero cost to 4 figures. Some systems have annoying security features and/or limits on software installations (on more than one computer), some no restrictions at all.

Go to their web sites and educate yourself.

Yup Ken, I figured that one out quick

The CDS system sounds awesome, but it would mean skipping a lot more than 2 races for me can't justify spending half the value of my car on a data setup just yet!

Tiago, CDS just weighed in on this system. With the cost of the required sensors you will need, this used system will approximate 10 times the price you stated you want to pay.

You canadians use funny math. How does 500-600 X 10 equal the asking price of 2K? Even if you have to update it and add the sensors that would bring it to 3K, and thats still less than 5K to 6K using your 10x number.

Tiago says he wants to spend $300-$500; YOU are trying to sell this system for $2K PLUS the cost of sensors: $3,000.00

I don't understand where you come off on trying to pitch a system that you are trying to sell USED for the same price as NEW!!

And you don't have the gumption (I am being polite) to identify yourself.

    Hehe.. Oh, you guys...

It really doesn't matter by how much the CDS system is out of my budget - it just is. I'm sure it's great, in fact I KNOW it's awesome, but whether the price is fair or overpriced really is a moot point as far as I'm concerned. It's too expensive for me, and would still be too expensive if it was $1000 cheaper haha.

I'm still looking for other options, though, so keep them coming! I have a couple systems that I'm looking at and talking to people about, but let me know if you have anything else.

    Cheers.

Default Don't bother trying an AIM on a Vee...

We tried using my spare MyChron3 on a friend's Vee last year. Complete utter miserable failure; the lack of power and incredible noise on the ignition signal prevented us from getting much of anything done. Admittedly, he has points not electronic pickup, but they're good new points; after numerous go-arounds with AIM support he found it just doesn't work.

The low surplus power available in the Vee also created some problems with the AIM on occasion; more to the point, he's been having trouble with this with a DL1/Dash3 setup. Seems like a separate battery pack is the best solution, and he's converting to that for next season. We found the DL1 would continue to log with relatively low voltages, but the dash would power cycle - and you'd lose any hope of getting lap times!

Don't get me wrong, I've had many years of success with my MyChron3 in my ITB car, and now have a DL1/Dash3 setup in my DSR, but I just wanted to point out the unique concerns that a Vee creates with running data.

I gotta imagine that CDS etc might have a better handle on these issues, since they're a little more focused on supporting the club racers?

I'll agree with the poor tach signal from stock points. I have an AIM TG Log system on my Vee and the RPM is pretty much useless. Many Vees use a crank trigger RPM pickup, probably for this very reason. AIM does offer an RPM filter that I have used successfully on cars with an inductive electronic ignition system that was also very noisy. I haven't tried one on the Vee, but it might help. I haven't had any issues with power. Plenty of people have full data systems on Vees so I think this might be an issue unique to your friend's car.

We have used several AIM systems on several FVs with no issues. As an old school racer who often finds DA a huge distraction, I have been very impressed with AIM products.

    Default Back to maris

Tiago, then you might just be back to Maris and the Mychron Kart system. Price is right, and the dash looks great!

We have no problems with our systems working in FV. Our customers have logged 3 runoffs championships and many runoffs podiums in recent years.
