    Default Chimney cooling exhausts

What is the design criteria for the chimney cooling system exhausts once found on F1 cars (now band) and now on some current SCCA formula cars?

Is it as simple as better airflow found off the surface of the body or is the exit precisely placed in the car's airflow?

The best one i have seen to date...

In the VD/Zetec application the headers and the starter tend to clog up the airflow at the rear of the sidepod.

Some just cut holes in the sidepod.

This chimney has an airfoil attached at the top to create a venturi effect to suck air out of the chimney.

In some endeavors, the means are more interesting than the end.

Default Finally ran the chimneys on the Firman

at WGI this past wknd, and they dropped the coolant temp from 220 to 200.
It was disgustingly hot on Thursday test day...
