Except that Frank C reminded me that Dan Layton is having an RF98 converted so I don't know if his is a special one off kit or not since he works for Honda Racing Development. The information I got from Honda said 99 and newer. I don't know what the difference is bewteen an RF98 and 99+.

ambrose, the vd kit is for 98 and newer, although eric at QS is doing a 97. again, that's probably not an option for you size wise unless you get the wide one
I believe Dan Layton's was a Pinto 98, converted to Kent converted to Fit. Which is different than a 98K car which is essentially a 97 FC. A 99 Kent car is more like the 98+ pinto.

Wendell Miller in OKC is doing the conversion on Dan's RF98. It is the car shown in the HPD blog. Dan is a contractor to HPD, doing IRL PR for them. He will be running up and down the pits during the 500. It is his car, and I don't think it represents HPD. They are hoping to have it out for the June Sprints, but there is a lot of work to do. There are some pictures scattered through:

Yeah, Tim and Frank have it correct. My car was originally an RF98/Pinto for FC, then was converted to FF up in Canada and now is getting the Fit. Our engine just arrived from QS yesterday (Friday) and we're still shooting to run the June Sprints.
The FC RF98 is basically the same car as the 99 and newer FF (the cockpit is a bit narrower than in later cars). At the time, Van Diemen chose to wait a year before changing the FF to the newer design.
For the record, HPD is producing kits for the Swift DB-1, Swift DB-6, Piper, Citation and Van Diemen 99+ FF (98+ FC).
Hope this helps.

YMMV = Your mileage might vary.
here is full lap comparison
light blue = kent
red = 27.5
green = 28.5
purple 29.5
From an uneducated POV, it seems that a 31.0 mm or a 31.5 mm might be the right choice. Overall, the 27.5 mm just plain sucks, IMVHO.
BRAVO ZULU for your efforts and "transparency"

Any trap speeds from this year's June Sprints?

Any word on who might have been running a Honda in FF? I see TimW, but am unsure of the other names...

Some objective numbers I have is that I was 6 MHP slower into Canada with a comparable minimum speed in Turn 8. I was able to take the kink & the carousel flat in the Honda...have never done that with the kent even though I'm pretty sure the car could have...(Kent kink lift was 1.6s to 30% min TPS, huge I know..must remove the wires from right foot to brain that passes through wallet)
Was 9.5 MPH slower into turn 5 with a comparable minimum speed in turn 3.
Was 11.2 MPH slower into turn 1 with a minimum speed in 14 2 below my best Kent lap.
Ambient was 82F & 84F for both laps. Kent lap time was 2:26.65 and the Honda was 2:30.53.
While I'm not going to share plots publicly, the CRB has the plots which corroborates the numbers above. I will show a physical plot printout or display on my computer to anyone who wants to see it, but will not distribute more detail electronically.

Tim, thank you. a little less than what i thought, or hoped for, but i'm sure we'll see another adjustment in time...ric
I agree w/ Ric, thanks to Tim for sharing the info. Pretty well corroborates my experience a couple weeks ago at Laguna, where the straights are definitely shorter than R.A., but telling on the Honda hp disadvantage nonetheless. The only time I was able to even barely stay with the two Kent-engined cars I was around the most (Jon Brandstad and Tom Duncan) was if I got a really good run on either guy coming off 11. Otherwise it was bye-bye until we got to 2. Same thing from 4 down to 5. Unfortunately we don't have any hard data to support the car-to-car comparisons, but it was pretty obvious to those watching, including me.
Let's hope the CRB will let us try a 30mm soon, and that some of the guys who can then provide the data (besides TimW) will do so.
