I'd like to be able to put my car in reverse. I know that Quaife has a product but I'm working on a budget. Does anyone have plans for a simple reverse mechanism? Thanks.

What kind of drivetrain setup are you using? whatengine ? etc?
I'm using a Honda CBR 600 RR, chain drive to straight axle.
I saw an arrangement years ago, I believe on a Radical (?) that saw a small-ish type flywheel mounted to some part of the driveshaft/flange whatever, that was spun by a starter motor mounted off the frame. Push button and car moves backwards...
Honda 600 powered cars from the UK, like the Jedi, mount a gear to the differential and use a starter motor, that's engaged by way of a lever/cable, to meet the rules about a reverse.
Yea, what was that F1000 car that Phil had in his shop a couple of years ago? OMP? It had a starter motor near the inner end of a halfshaft.
While reverse would be a very nice thing to have, lots of race cars in SCCA, especially FB & DSR cars, do not have them. You get use to it and after a while it's not a big deal (not having a reverse gear). Just pretend it's a Hewland with a stripped reverse gear. :-).

I have an electric reverse on my street legal Sports Racer with Hayabusa.
I sandwiched a Geo Metro flex plate flywheel to sprocket on differential and used a Suburu starter.
Probably adds 20 pounds. If I only raced the car I would not consider reverse.
Engaging reserse when engine is running will kill the engine most likely due to
power to ECU being momentarily reduced below minimims.
