    Default 50cc Scooter wanted

Anyone upgrading and selling a used 50cc scooter ?
Or maybe something slightly bigger but not for street use, paddock and facility only.
Or anyone know of a source for either used Honda types or new knockoffs ?
    Any suggestions welcome.
Mike Rand, michaelrand@sbcglobal.net, or F2000 office phone 860-364-5252.
    Thanks.

Are you looking for a getaway vehicle Mike?

Does it need a storage compartment for wigs?

Rick, I called Joe, he's one of our rarely appearing FF guys, it is a 3 speed 70+ mph dirt bike, not a scooter. Knobby tires, the whole deal.
I could really hurt myself on something like that.....

Ahhh, I understand the concern. How about a restrictor plate.

Don't want a pit lane speeding penalty.

No direct experience, but last time I looked (couple of years ago), small motor scooters fell into two categories: (a) inexpensive, low quality, made in China; (b) expensive, high quality, made in Europe or Japan. If you are looking for something to just ride around the paddock, I would suggest finding a good dealer in your area and taking their recommendation for a low cost scooter. There isn't a lot of functional difference between most of the Chinese models, it will mostly come down to what brand you can get serviced easily.

If you're going to use it on the road, ride it often, or care much about reliability, you'll want to spend more and get a higher quality (Aprilia, etc) brand. But you'll pay a LOT more money.

You might ask Glenn where he got his, it seems to work fine aside from the occasional cloud of blue smoke .

I also found this forum, might be worth looking through (they mention GMI):

Search Clist and Ebay and pick up a Ruckus or Metropolitan. I found a 2009 Ruckus for 1200 bucks and the guy had bought it 5 months prior for 2600. Better deals on the older they get too.

Default You guys may be familiar with the MOTRA

my JDM/SE Asian Honda, never imported into the US. It is a 50cc, 3 speed auto clutch w/ hi and low range. It's a bit of a bear carrying the errant wheel or 5 gallon jug, but it can go off road, Zuma like, so it's a hoot.

The best bit about the Elite 80 scooter is it can be tagged and will go damn near 50 mph so a trip to the local store is not out of the question, AND a full gas jug will rest on the floor between your feet.
On the other end of the scale, being seen riding a scooter by any of your friends is, as the story goes, akin to, well you know the rest!

Nice thing about my Zuma, it's licensed for the street. That means that at tracks where only licensed vehicles are allowed in the infield, i can ride right in, while ATVs etc. are not allowed.

    Something to consider.

A scooter isn't going to help Mike.

We can tie yellow caution tape to the scooter just as easily as the golf cart........

I gave this bike a test ride & it worked great. If I had the extra room in my E150 to haul it I would have bought it.

Scott, I'm sure it is perfect, with one exception.
How in hell would you carry a fuel jug or wheel/tire ?
It kinda makes my back ache just imagining the bent over posture to ride it, at least that is what it looks like.
Sean is a good guy and I know it is fine, but not for what I'm looking for right now.
Like many, if not most, or maybe all, motorized questions the more one digs the more options available. A bewildering number of scooters, everything from the $500 new Chinese to $4000 and up new Europeans.

    Default Look for a Ruckus!

Rand Ive put 10k miles on mine. Driven as a comuter. Changed the oil a couple of times. Have worn out both frt & rr tire. 93 miles to gallon 40mph hauling around 195 lbs. Never had any problems of any kind.

Mike- The Keen has an upright seating position but your right about the tires and fuel jugs. You'd have to build a rack of some sort. Here's another option that will carry all the fuel/ tires you want... 08 Grizzly 350- 4x4, Indep rear suspension, $4000 with new tires (I can have street tires installed) and all serviced up:

Last option: I'll buy you what you want (a regular scooter like a Zuma) at the wholesale auction (NPA). There is one in 2 weeks.

Before I pull the trigger and ok Sean to buy a used Zuma [or Ruckus maybe ?]at auction, anyone know of a reason not to move on a perfect condition 2001 Yamaha SH50NR Razz ?Just over a thousand miles, just under a thousand dollars, here in Connecticut.
Sean, depending on feedback I may well be taking you up on your final option.

So, comments pro and con on a Yamaha Razz ?

My problem with the Razz. It's a bit "dinky".

I have a Zuma. The fatter tires are a big advantage in grassy infields, and dirt roads.

The Zuma racks are beefier. The Zuma can carry two, in a pinch (like when you really need to outrun a Tsunami).

The Razz might be lighter in weight, something to consider if you are carrying it on your rear bumper.

Just ask Jim Morgan, these little devils will toss you on the ground in a blink. I like the fatter tires for off road (grass, dirt, gravel).

    Just my 2 cents.

Thumbs up on the Zuma (owned one), thumbs down on the tiny-tire Razz (rode one several times and hated it).
If tires and fuel jugs are a req't, the Kymco I offered you isn't best choice after all.

Rand, My Razz has taken some pretty good beatings for the past 10 years. Probably the worst thrashing was at Summit about 8 years ago. It was used as the "spec vehicle" in a drunken timed one lap "shootout" by about 10 of us in dead of night. I don't know how many times that poor thing took a digger that night but it still runs like a top. I picked it up at the Hartford police auction for $50 Apparently they're the vehicle of choice with the drug dealers up there as when I got mine, there was a PILE of them. A cop told me the dealers use them because they get down the ally's better than a car and they're easier to "bail out of" than a car! Oh,...A 5 gallon square jug fit's perfectly between your feet. Ff tires,......one at a time.
