LAS VEGAS, NV (January 30, 2010) – The three principal members of the SCCA who comprised the first full SCCA Enterprises Board of Directors in 1988 were once again together as they all three were honored at the 2010 SCCA National Convention in sunny Las Vegas this week. Pictured here, from left to right, are Wayne Zitkus, Andy Porterfield and R. David Jones. Zitkus and Jones were being inducted into the SCCA Hall of Fame and Porterfield won the highest award the SCCA has to offer, the Woolf Bernato Award. Porterfield joined Zitkus and Jones, previous recipients, in winning this prestigious award.
SCCA Enterprises was created to assume production responsibilities of the Sports Renault, the spec sports racer that was originally developed as a joint venture between SCCA and Jeep/Renault Sport. When Jeep/Renault decided to hand over all production of the car to SCCA in 1986, the SCCA leadership realized they needed a separate division that could focus on the business of building, selling and servicing the fastest selling production spec racer in North America. SCCA Enterprises was created and officially incorporated in October of 1986 with Jones as the sole Board member. The first full Bylaws for SCCA Enterprises were signed in March of 1988 and included the creation of the current three person Board. Jones continued on the Board as Chairman, and was joined by Zitkus and Porterfield.

Porterfield has since served on the Board of Directors for SCCA Enterprises twice and is the current Chairman. He remains very involved with the direction of the company as it prepares to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Sports Renault, know known as the Spec Racer Ford. Jones recently had a second stint on the Enterprises Board but has since stepped down as he was elected once again to the SCCA Inc Board and no common board members are allowed as the two entities are now operationally separate.

“Being part of the creation of SCCA Enterprises and then coming back in a time of crisis several years ago to insure that the investment our members have made in Enterprises products are protected has been a highlight of my business involvement with SCCA,” said Porterfield. “As an active racer, I know how important it is to keep our promise to those that buy an Enterprises product. It is also exciting to be serving on the Board as we celebrate the history of the company, the anniversary of the Spec Racer product and an exciting future with new products like our Formula Enterprises cars,” added Porterfield.

On April 9-11, 2010 SCCA Enterprises will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Spec Racer Ford with an exciting weekend of racing and the home of the first SCCA National Championship that featured the Spec Racer Ford, historic Road Atlanta in Winder, GA.
