My wide, low jack does not fit under the car with the nose on---not terribly convenient in the pit lane if a tire change is necessary.
Anyone with an opinion regarding this from Mike?

I have one for sale at $ 35.00 + shipping. It worked without a problem on my FSCCA. If interested, email me at RayDona@rexxonengineering.US
Jim, you will eventually break the nose off with this type of jack. I know this because it happened to us.

That is what it looked like...
So, that said, what is a good way to get the front of the car up in the air on short notice? (ie-not pulling the nose off to get my normal, very flat, low jack in that requires the nose be removed?)
couple of these under one or two front tires

still doesn't let you change tires though
The following method is semi-quick:
1. Use a quick jack to lift the rear.
2. Slide a 4"x4"x12" block of wood under the car as far forward as possible.
3. Lower the rear and the front tires will be off the ground.
Handles on the block of wood add convenience.
PS. I think the 2"x4" post above was suggessting that you drive up on them and then you'll have enough ground clearance to slip a quick jack under the front floor.

With two people it's pretty easy. Lift the back of the car with the jack and put a 4x4 under the rear of the plank. set the rear back down onto the 4x4; now you can lift the nose off the ground by simply grabbing it and lifting, then put another 4x4 under the front of the plank. The rear 4x4 acts as a fulcrum, so the weight of the nose is probably only 50 lbs or so when raised in this manner.

There is a very easy way to get the front off the ground alone. It requires a quick jack, ours is the steel tube & sheet metal version.
1st, drill an appropriate sized hole near the middle of the top surface of the quick jack. This hole is to allow the front lower control arm pickup stud to just fit within the hole. I think our hole was 5/8" in diameter.
Then you simply pick up the car from the side just behind the rear of the front tire. Slide the jack under the front of the chassis diagonally & slightly lift the jack until the end of the stud & the nut slides into the hole that you drilled. Lift the car, easy as pie.

Thanks, Jay.
That is what I had been doing, but wanted to be sure I wasn't out in left field somewhere.
Jim
Just use a regular floor jack under the forward most lower suspension pickup and then put a stand under the floor. Or maybe it's the rearward pickup (on the front). Whichever it is I've never seen anyone using a special tool.
Attempts at humor aside, seriously it is what we do with an extremely low car, throw a couple 2x4 or 2x6 on pit lane, roll front of car on them, and the quick jack that previously wouldn't fit under the low car, now will.
in fact I've got one pair of 2x10s that are beveled at leading edge for easy rollon, then two thicknesses high, with a rear lip to keep from rolling off the front,
Is it not that easy? or maybe something I'm missing on FE?
sounds easier than two guys picking up back of car.

Used MK's quick lifts front and rear for 5+ seasons. Only way to go for quick rain change in pit or on grid.
Wally
We use MK's front and Mike Beauchamp's rear quick jacks.

I have the MK lift for the rear and like it.
I have a lift like the MK wide guy for the front, but it only works if the nose is off to get to the flat bottom of the car.
Wally/Steve---what are you using as the lift point on the front?
Jim---too much winter bordom already---
The jack goes under the wing. Nose stays on. When I'm rushed I don't even put the stands under the car, just use the jacks. The nosecone if no damage, is strong enough to lift the car.
Wally
Got it. Thanks Wally. After Jay's warning above about breaking the nose off, it made me a little nervous.
JL
Same as Wally. Under the front wing. We only use it in the hot pits to change tires or at the shop, changing tires for the setup platform. Otherwise we have the car in the air. We did tweak the handle slightly so that it went more over-center. It always seemed a little too close to coming back down on its own.
