    Default '83 vs '84 Reynard

I am considering the purchase of an '83 Reynard. I've looked at the "Anatomy of Fford" book and it does not differential the '83 from the '84 cars. Can anyone tell the difference between the two year models?

    thanks,
    Mike

For all intents and purposes there is no difference except for the date on the manufacture plate .
Most refer to all 83 - 84 Reynards as 84s.

My 83 had a narrrower roll hoop compared to the 84. I believe that was the only difference.

    Default 82 vs 83 vs 84

Keith Averill / Larry Oliver are the definite sources for the answers to your questions, but, as the previous owner of a '82 Reynard FF, here's what I learned when searching for a car within this series:

~ '82 Reynard FF (i.e. odd man out)
Adrian's first inboard shock, rocker-arm FF.
    Narrow covered twin roll hoop.
Rear (along engine sides) mounted radiators.
Does not share suspension components (a-arms, rockers, rollbars, uprights) with later '83-'84 cars.
For the most part, does not share bodywork components (main, engine sides, tail) with later '83-'84 cars.

    ~ '83 Reynard FF
    Evolution of '82.
    Narrow covered twin roll hoop.
Side mounted radiators within aluminum side pods.
For the most part, shares suspension components (a-arms, rockers, rollbars, uprights) with '84 cars.
For the most part, shares bodywork components (main, engine sides, tail) with '84 cars.

    ~ '84 Reynard FF
    Evolution of '83.
    Wide covered twin roll hoop.
Side mounted radiators within aluminum side pods.
For the most part, shares suspension components (a-arms, rockers, rollbars, uprights) with '83 cars.
For the most part, shares bodywork components (main, engine sides, tail) with '83 cars.

All that said, it would not hesitate to own another one of these cars ('82, '83, or '84). Very easy, forgiving, fun cars to drive!

The reynard registry has many pics of both models.
Use the link in my signature as some of the search engine results have some redirection issues.

    Jeff,

I just tried the link in your sig. and it worked fine.

I did a Google search for "Reynard Registry" and it comes up at the top of the page.

Google has a 'statement' just under the listing saying "this site may harm your computer"! If you click on their link it takes you to a WARNING page and not the site.

However, the do show the correct WWW.(etc.) and if you copy paste it it works fine.

    VERY STRANGE

    NOTE:
They also say this on the WARNING PAGE...

The two big changes between 83 & 84 are the main rollbar hoop as described by -Pru- and the addition of "W" & "V" braces between the bellhousing, gearbox, and rear shear plate. This was to eliminate some flex in the back, which was contributing to cracked bell housings. Most 83s by this time have had this update, as it is a simple bolt-on. 82s also have a different rear sway bar mounting location than the 83/4.

Great cars w/ strong mechanical grip, which are very forgiving to drive and easy to set-up. Parts support is also still strong between Averill, International, Prince, & TDI.

Yes to the V and W update. My 83 has these changes. And yes to this being a easy car to drive.

Dropped a PM as my 83 is in terrific shape and for sale on this site.

I also have occasionally had the same issues that Mike experienced trying to go to the reynardregistry.
