    Default FST Tire Life

Just wanted to inform those interested that one of the great things about FST is reduced racing costs via hard tires that last and do not give up performance. This past weekend at Mid-Ohio, my tires got heat cycles number 21, 22, 23 & 24. I finished 3rd on Saturday, turning the second fastest lap time of the race (better than the race winner) and finished second on Suday, turning the second fastest lap time of the race (better than the race winner). The tread wear indicators after 24 heat cycles are getting very shallow. I will most likely change them before the ARRC, not to increase performance, but because traction really fades quickly once you break through to the carcas

Here is a shot from Saturday (still two more heat cycles left)

    Default Efficiency expert.

Bill, thanks for the tip. I keep fairly detailed notes around the rim using a sharpie (in code, of course) that lets me know how many heat cycles, prevailing conditions in each session, time per session, how the tires worked. The problem with this approach is when I flop them, it takes 10 minutes to transpose all my notes, writing directly on the tire saves time!

The GCR lists (3) spec tires that can be used in FST. They are simply the hard compound tires commonly used for CFF. By the GCR, each division, region or series can claim which of the three tire manufactures they will allow. The US FST Series runs on Hoosier R60A tires.
