This car is currently in my garage getting a complete freshen up and race prep. A little history behind HU 32, this is Greg Atwell's car that sat on pole at the 1979 Runoffs. The car has a fresh Farley engine (40th time only), annual tech, new belts, ect. My bet is that the car will be a pretty competitive CFF at the 40th (even knowing the talent to be present). The bodywork is very close to new in black gel coat.

This is a great/competitive Club Ford for the price, let alone the history and the load of spares that come with it. Any local parties interested in the car can PM me to set up a visit.

    Bump for you Jim.

Someone please buy this car before I commit financial and matrimonial suicide - I've been coveting this car for years! Just not in the budget.

I picked up a load of parts/spares from Jim Roemer this Saturday and I was shocked at the shear quantity of spare parts that will come with this car. Some of the major pare parts include: two front bulkhead plates, two exhast systems, a new rear upright, 2 sports car noses and nose frame, 1 speedway nose and nose frame, 1 ceter section, 1 tall carb scoop, side panels, side panel radiator tubes, 1 original radiator, 2 rear rotors, new CV joints, a bunch of new wheel bearings, starters, 1 iron cylinder head, 1 steel pan........ The list goes on and on. Here was a real find, the car has 24 gear sets and 8 very usable dog rings

One other thing that could be of interest, the engine came off Curtis Farley's dyno at 116 HP (peak)

For the asking price, this is a really nice car and my bet is that it will be pretty quick at the 40th. I am not brokering this car, just trying to help some friends and get a cheap ride at what will be a historical event.

The car is up at LMI getting a complete alignment prior to the trip up to RA on Wednesday. If interested, please stop by the LMI trailer this weekend at the 40th

Bring it home at the end of the weekend.

After spending the weekend under the tent next to this car, I'll chime in - the car is fantastic.

It is very clean and well put together. Not to mention very quick (insert something about Bill's driving here).

If I had $11k, or rather, if the bank didn't take away my line of credit on my underwater mortgage, I'd buy this in a heart beat. As Bill has pointed out, the engine is very strong and the spares package is worth a ton.

Default Very fast "real" Club Ford

I've been out of town all week and was hopefull that Doug or someone got a nice action shot of this car during the 40th so I could post a current photo (big hint if anyone has something).

Before the event, I was very skeptical about the narrow track of the T-540. After driving the car, I was plesantly surprized just how good this car responds. In addition, this is a club ford as it was ment to be, a 100% original '79 Lola T-540, pretty much as it was raced in '79. Iron head, iron diff, solid axles, heavy/stock CV joints, no chassis mods (w/stock rubber engine mounts), no body changes (wide nose), old fashioned Koni's, ect., ect., ect. In addition, I have not driven in CFF or FF for 10 years, did not do a test day and missed the first practice. The result is a very solid, extremely fast car that finished 6th in CFF and was one of 13 cars under the old Scott Hutchison CFF track record that stood since '98.

For what this car is and the spares package that come with it, this car is an absolute bargin.

I am so very happy that I was able to be involved in this historic event. Buy this car and own the fastest and best finishing Lola that participated in the 40th.

P.S., Please post a photo if you have one.

Please send pics. Just getting started in racing. Will this qualify for vintage SCCA or other sanctioning body?

'79 Lola T540 is eligible as a Club Ford with most vintage racing organizations (VDCA, SVRA, VRG to name a few on the East Coast). It would have to run on Dunlop treaded tires, must have iron head and origninal style shocks (no remote resevoir).

And possibly have to have outboard shocks on at least one end. I'm not familiar with the T540 shock arrangement, but it probably does. If so it would be eligible for the Monoposto FF70 vintage class, which has an open tire rule.

As I recall, it has outboard shocks on both ends, and they are standard (no remote reservoir) shocks.

It would be eligible as a club ford in SCCA, or FF70 on slicks in VSCDA, or Vintage Formula Ford in VSCDA (or other groups that recognize Monoposto rules) for 2009 and possibly going forward, depending on how allowing club fords into the vintage group (on R60s) goes this year. I hope it sticks and they let the older club fords run with the vintage FF's at VSCDA...
(because I personally don't want to run with the FF70/wings-and-things group that could have a Formula 2000 or an old Indy car on the track at the same time...)

It is a fantastic car at a great price...as I said before, wish I could buy it.

Jeff @ Lindstrand Motorsports was taking a ton of pictures of our cars... I emailed and asked if he's downloaded anything yet...

After seeing all the lap times of both the FF70 cars on slicks & the pre 73 vintage cars on Dunlaps I see no reason they couldn't all run together either with slicks or Dunlops. It looked like both groups had times that were about equal, depending on the drivers of course.

    Scott,

I dunno.... The top 8 in the entire vintage group were in FF70 (all club fords, on various tires).. While I am happy to be in that group with my 1975 car on slicks... If I was at a VSCDA event in their shoes, I wouldn't be thrilled if we were competing for the same trophy.

Don't take that the wrong way - I really really want to run VSCDA events.. I like the atmosphere a little better, and the parade laps are a great way to bring friends and spouses into the weekend... At an SCCA event, my girlfriend asks "Whats the track like" and I wish I could say "Take a car during the lunch hour and go find out"... But I cant at SCCA, where VSCDA welcomes it. Ok, rant complete.....

Sorry Mike, I don't follow you. According to those results which were from the first race (Sat.) with the FF70 cars starting ahead of the vintage cars using a split start, the vintage group had 5 cars with faster lap times than the 3rd fastest FF70 car. That was a quaifying race where they used each car's fastest lap to set the grid for Sunday's race which was also a split start.

    Doug,

Thanks for posting the photos. The car is just as it looks, sharp and clean. The Sun Lake Video crew mounted a POV camera on the roll bar facing backwards for the race (can be seen in these photos) and most likely video from this car will get into the "40 Years of Formula Ford" DVD.

The Lola is back at Jim Roemer's in New Berlin, WI and is ready for the next owner to add to its long history.

    Default 40th FF Reunion results

In the "for what it's worth" column, this car finished 6th out of 66 Club Ford cars at the Reunion at the hands of Bill Bonow. It was the fastest Lola in the race. The fresh Farley engine has 1 weekend on it.

Dammit, Jim, would you please sell this car before it drives me crazy. I inadvertantly called my wife "Lola" last night at a most inopportune moment.

Thanks for posting the pics Doug. It's amazing that the car is still that competitive some 20 years later. I really wanted to attend but was tied up with a Ferrari Challenge event at Mont Tremblant Canada.

    Greg,

The car still works great, but just one small typo in your post. Old HU 32 is still competitive, but it is some 30 years later
