    Lynn,
Remember that at one point we owned the HQ building in Denver outright, no mortgage or anything.

Then a decision was taken to sell the building and lease it back. I do not recall the reasoning behind that.

I agree that no good reason was ever given for moving to Topeka other than Steve Johnson wanting to be there. IIRC, someone said it was his hometown.

If anyone thinks Topeka is the greatest place to live, please speak up.

Many employees of the AT&SF:BNSF railway would disagree with all of you. We had hell getting them to move anywhere. Why move to high taxes, high crime and other socially ill areas? The second hand quote above is from someone that never even went to Topeka. I did business there for years before retirement and found the people to be, if anything, overly friendly and helpful. This year at the runoffs we had more than our share of car trouble. We went to the local Ace Hardware for supplies and when they didn't have what we needed the store employees got on multiple phones and called around finding us the things we needed. Let's see how well we do with the local populace around RA. Hopefully we won't be stuck in the mud or snow for three or four weeks after the last race with two thousand miles between us and home.

YMMV, but has everyone complaining really done the trip(s)?

I have been taking trips to Topeka for the last 5 years for BOD meetings.I have found the locals to be friendly, helpful and amazingly accomodating.Contrary to popular belief there was never any thought process or plan to move the Runoffs to Topeka.Mid Ohio made that decision for us.The National office change from Denver to Topeka was a smart decision for financial reasons.Whether you think Topeka was a better or worse location for the Runoffs is a moot point at this time as we are going to Road America which will have a completely new set of challenges and issues. It will be hard for the Road America area and folks to be as friendly and accomodating as the folks in Topeka.Just wait to you see the hotel prices and their flexibility and willingness to work with you.

I made two Runons trips to Topeka for at least 10 days a piece. I found the people in Topeka to be wonderful and welcoming. Hotels within an easy drive and no jacked up prices. Great food and wait staff at Pat's Pig. I have nothing but great memories about Topeka itself.

Sort of like marriage. Just because a marriage doesn't work doesn't mean there is anything wrong with either party. They were just the wrong two parties to be married.

In fact, many times I think the Runoffs format was more to blame for the bad marriage than any failing by the fine folks at Topeka. We've screwed ourselves into a situation where we feel it's necessary to be at the Runons for nearly two weeks to be competitive. Two weeks anywhere away from home and business is too much, no matter the locale.

Over the last 2 years I've attended 13 intensly competitive weekends. The longest of the weekends was 5 days. It should not take two weeks to hold a 30 minute sprint race.

Thank you Topeka for wonderful hospitality!

It took you guys 5 days to hold a couple of 30-minute sprint races...?

BTW, I agree completely with your assessment of Topeka. Fine people, a great facility and a tough track! I was looking forward to HPT when we rotated out of MO, I am looking forward to RA after HPT, and I'll be looking forward to where ever we go from there.

    Thank you Topeka!

Mike, we have about 2 months before everything gets locked up...lol

I as well enjoyed the experience at Topeka. The citizens were very helpful, I had trailer problems last year and the trailer place down from the track was very helpful. Motel rooms were cheaper then MO and no one broke in to my truck and stole all my work tools.

Location and track aside Topeka couldn't have been better, great people ,good services fair prices. Off track at least an equal experience to ten days at Mid-Ohio.

Well, I can't speak for Topeka, but I will say that we've been VERY impressed with the friendliness in the Milwaukee area. Ya see, we moved to West Bend (about 25 miles from Elkhart Lake) 2 months ago......

    You're gonna like it!
