Default Reynard bolt torque - Question

    On the Reynard 89SF.....

There are 9/16ths bolts that attach the engine block to the bell housing. Then
there are much longer 9/16ths bolts that attach the rear casting at four points to the chassis.

I thought we had the torque values for these in our book. But we don't. Anybody know the numbers please?

I found the "generic" values for 9/16th's but that seems VERY high considering the castings involved.

    Default bolt torque

there are 12 bolts that must be removed to seperate the 2L mill from the transaxel. all are 3/8 thread and have 9/16 hexagonal caps. ( you need 9/16 wrench to turn um) the Reynard tech manual has torque specs of 20-22 ft.-lbs for half nut and 32-34 ft. - lbs torque for full nut or full thread depth into castings. use 33 lbs

Well Duhhh.. on me. You're right Mike. Didn't engage brain while I was typing the question.

Thanks SO MUCH for the input. As a first step in the torque process, I did 35 Ft. Lbs (which seemed right by feel) and stopped to ask here before stripping out any threads. Lucky guess is all. But I'll reset to 33.

    Default Reynard specs.

    Y'all.

There's a Reynard Tech Manual? Where can I get one? I have a 1989 Formula Continental.

    Cheers.

    Tony,

The previous owner of our car (Rob Russell) did an excellent job of keeping all the car info together. Have the following:

    1.
Tech manual retyped so it's readable.
    2.
All the chassis exploded view drawings including the transaxle.
    3.
Hewland gear change info and tools required.
    4.
    Drop limiter setup.
    5.
Original factory wiring diagram. Plus diagram with a Stack tach.

If you need this info I can copy it for you. If anybody else needs them, I can make multiple copies. Let me know.

    Default Reynard Tech manual

Great responses as usual (ApexSpeed rocks!)

Mike, I had forgotten about the gnegy site. I've gotten some good stuff from there in the past but hadn't visited it for a while. The Weber carb info was particularly useful. Should get me one of them T-shirts.

Rick, I'll take anything you've got. Do you have that stuff in electronic form (e-mailable, in other words)? If you'd have to mail it to me, I can send you a cheque or Money Order. Let me know how much you'd need.

    Cheers.

    Tony,

It's all hard paper stuff. If you private message me your address I'll get it off to you.

As far as payment is concerned, Hmmm.. maybe 3 cents to cover my time for running the copy machine. I work cheap.

    Default Thanks

Thanks for the site, I need somethin like that too for my 84/86 Reynard Sf2000. It was converted to a Continental in 86, so would the 84 Sf link work?

    Thanks,

    Steve,

I can't answer that for absolute certainty but yes I think so. 84-86 were alike. I belive the FF and FC chassis were the same.

There were changes in suspension parts in 1987 that carried through to 1992 (I think).

    Default 83/4/6 Reynard

    Steve,

The Reynard chassis during this period were the same--whether for 1600 or 2000. The suspension was the same, too, except for some changes in the 86 car. In 86, Reynard used the 85 chassis for the 1600 car, and the 84 chassis for the 2000 car, as this is when the Brits stopped running the 2-liter.

The conversion of your car required very little, except an engine spider and some fiberglass, wheels and the engine bits.
