    Default Rand turns 60 !

I have it from questionable sources in Sharon CT that Thursday, September 27th is Mike Rand's 60th birthday.

This now moves him up into a select group of my older mentors. Such esteemed guys as Weitzenhof, Jordan, Cooper, and Moran, amoung others. Like Cole says, guys with lots of black and white pictures in their albums...

He is still, just ever so slightly, older than the race cars he drives.

    Happy Birthday! Mike

Rand is going to be one of those guys you tell your grand kids about. "Yea, there was this guy back in my day that would kick all the young guys ass's and he was 74 years old!" Maybe some of that Carmichael DNA rubbed off on him. OR it could be that Sept 27th is a good day for REALLY fast guys to be born

Rand, Stop by my MoHo Thursday night at LRP and have some cake!

Mike Rand - The man, The Myth, The Legend.

Mike, like they say, 60 is the new 40, so if you want you can race McDonough next year for the Old guys Championship. Was that too harsh? Anyways, happy birthday buddy. I hope you have a great 60th, too bad we aren't at the track for an F2000 event or I am sure we would have a killer bash with the Fat Boys and everyone. If you get a digital camera call me from your rotary phone so I can tell you where the ON button is.

Love the biggest pain in your ass,

Mike the Fat boys may have to come to the NAARC runoffs just to take you for a work out with a 'massage therapist' and single malts after you win.

    Will see you soon

    Happy Birthday Mike!
The good news: 60 is the new 40.
The bad news: the old 40 was pretty old.

Thanks to all for the kind words, but I am sorry to say I am only a Metric 60.
When it comes to age, the metric multiplier is, I am pretty sure, something like .6. Maybe .65, so something like 60 metric equals 36 or 39 in "real" years.
Or maybe in Lewis Carroll years.... one makes you larger, one makes you small, and the one that someone else gives you just might not do anything at all.......

"...one pill makes you smaller, one pill makes you larger, and the ones that mother gives you don't do anything at all..." and I actually do remember which may be very scary in itself.

Ok- I looked it up and I didn't remember after all:

"One pill makes you larger, and one pill makes you small, and the ones that mother gives you don't do anything at all. Go ask Alice when she's ten feet tall..."

To keep up with the Carmichael DNA, Mike needs to race for another 21 years and finish top 5 in Atlantic at the runoffs that last year.

    Dan is one amazing guy.

    Happy birthday Mike.

    Default Happy Birthday!

Well, I had the same birthday earlier this year, and it does make you think a little. I did warn Mike that his plan to drive an RV did have the possibility of making him appear to be a geezer, but he replied that driving it fast would reduce that chance. As long as we are on song lyrics, I think J.J. Cale and Eric Clapton are thinking about aging, too. I had lots of time to listen to "The Road to Escondido" album (nice driving music) on the 400 mile tow from Stillwater to Motorsports Park Hastings recently, and these lyrics from "Last Will and Testament" caught my attention -

"You know I'm going over sixty, I'm older than most
It won't be long now, I'll be nothing but a ghost."

One also gets some of this feeling from "This Sporting Life" and "Hard to Thrill."

    - Frank C

White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane (and I did not have to look it up, I swear)

Cole - you should be able to find it on Napster. (I believe I'm exactly 1/2 way between Rand & Cole in years, so I can be the interpreter)

"Jefferson Airplane" became "Jefferson Starship" became "Starship" (yuck). Surviving members presently touring as "Jefferson Wheelchair".

    Default Another Birthday Song

Oh well a Touch Of Grey
    Kind of suits you anyway.
That was all I had to say
    It's all right.
I will get by / I will get by
I will get by / I will survive
We will get by / We will get by
We will get by / We will survive

    Default Happy you know

Some say a mans measure of success can be scaled by his funeral procession. Too morbid for me. I rather use what we all saw at Lime Rock on the Saturdays lunch break as a scale.
It was terrific to see so many people turn out to wish you well.

    Very nice painting.

    Happy birthday

At this weekend's NARRC Run-Offs at Lime Rock, just for fun Mike decided to start from the back of the pack, even though he had qualified on the pole for his class.

    Result:

    Congrats Mike and happy birthday.

    Take care.

    Default Apologies, Mikey

    Sorry Mikey,
I missed your birthday, but i was out on I-77 changing a blowout on my trailer.

You're still younger than i am, ol' pal.

No question in my book, you are still the one to beat.

I'll be at the ARRC trying the impossible for yet another attempt.

Hugs to Tracey for hangin' in there with you for all these years.

    Cole,

    Go ask Alice;
    I think she'll know,
    When logic, and proportion
    Have fallen sloppy dead,
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's "off with her head!"
Remember what the door mouse said:
"Feed your head. Feed your head."

Lot more Fun than Google Dolls
