    Default smog control

the rules state the engines must be stock, with exceptions like carbs and exhaust. the yamaha R1 motor has air injectors that inject fresh air into the exhaust for pollution control. I assumed that this system could be removed but could not find confirmation in the GCR. And the best way to intrepret the GCR is that if it doesn't say you can, then you can't. Can all this stuff go away?

I put this into the category of "Exhaust Systems Free" - I believe most others would too.

It does NOT state that the "engine" must be stock. It DOES state that the "engine internals and compression ratio" must remain stock.

    Big difference!

    Default quick note

Such systems can be modified to provide crank case ventilation. This is a NO-NO.

    Default Wow

You guys made me spend 10 WHOLE minutes looking up what the heck Oblio meant/is/was.

After reading up on the subject I am not surprised that Charlie and Richard were able to use the word and understand each other. It's like a whole 'nother level or smart!

I will now go back to my humble idiocy and live in peace and harmony. Those guys must get lots of headaches!

I, too, finally got curious enough to look it up. And, I recognized it!

I looked it up right away, saw it was an animated movie from 1971, figured it must have been one of those things you watched while in a altered state.

Relax cat, the altered state is making you paranoid. Who said I was knocking it?

I wasn't old enough in '71 to know what was going on in the world around me, but looking back at some photos of friends and I it is quite apparent that many must have been in an altered state.

    Default PAIR Valves

This thread got WAY off track....and I was a kid back then and I don't ever remember an Oblio....

Josh makes a good point on this that may have went un-noticed. The PAIR valve set-up on the stock GSX-R1000 can be set up as a crankcase evacuation system by hooking up the hose to the crankcase (instead of to the airbox). This is NOT legal according to the GCR.

We plug the system off (externally) just to make sure there's no question. It makes no difference in the engine performance.

Josh, you kind of read my mind. After wondering if I could remove it, I thought "let's use this to evacuate the crankcase!" Thanks for setting me straight, I'm back to removing it.
