    Default Stohr F1000 pics

Made a quick mention late last year on the formula S forum about this car I planned for F1000 conversion. Power is RC51 (a bit lower HP than current I4s) injected V-twin.
Rear transaxle will be similar to my VanDiemen R1 conversion with the exception of the pushrod and shock location. Engine is stressed in addition to a stressed bellypan that will tie into the front of the transaxle/rear of motor.
Glad to hear the rules are leaning owards a SIR and 1000lb weight. Will make this car a bit more competive with current I4s.
BTW, the Vandiemen weighed 725lbs. Hope to have this one around 800.

That's cool, Neil. Looks like high quality fabrication.

Hey, I could be mistaken, but I think the SIR was dropped from the F1000 rules. I have mixed feelings about the SIR. Lots of pros and cons. I guess the rules makers/deciders thought the cons outweighed the pros.

Photos of our new F1000 will be coming soon !
SIR was deleted from the rules. Competitve stock bike engines should make about 170hp at the chain.

With the right pipe and tuning they will make 170hp at the wheels.

    Default Recent Stohr Pic

Here's the latest pic prior to boxing in mock transaxle.

BTW, not worried about being down on power. Not many cars will be showing up next Spring. When fields get bigger in 2008 I'll put in the latest.

Neil- looks really good. Quick question... if you are planning to run a R1/ GSXR, etc in the future won't your chassis be too skinny? I think your v-twin will be down on hp but up on turque + will have aero advantages. Might be the smartest choice....

    RC51 is an awesome bike.

Hasty (or someone) pointed out in a Sports Racer thread that a 98-99 R1 has won the runoffs last 4 or so years running so the "latest/ greatest" is only a piece of the puzzle.

How (where) are you mounting your rear a-arms?

    Thanks Sean,
The rear triangles are bolted to the firewall so making up new ones to accomodate any motor is pretty quick.
A-arms will be mounted off the sides of the mock transaxle.
Just like my VanDiemen, I'm starting out with just a spool.

That is sweet. I ride an RC51, it is a great motor, but you will be down on power and torque. Especially on power!!!! You will never get much more than 130 hp and about 76-78ft lbs of torque. The reason this motor worked on a bike, is that at the time it was competing against 750 cc I4's and the powerband of the twin was so progressive. On a car however. I think that the all out power of the I4's will be a serious advantage. Just my two cents! Beautifull work though.

    Default Down on power

No doubt I'll be down on power but I'm building this car to be a bit unique. It will still be fast but I know I won't be running at the runnoffs anyway.

The next car might be a tripple, just wait and see....

Maybe you could apply to run a weight of say 900lbs for twins, open the class up for Yours, Suzuki, KTM, Aprillia and Dukes. (hmmmm 999).

When I started my spec car I applied to KTM to supply, unlike you I was going to mount it transversly, chain to a CV jackshaft and then to a small car diff.

    Default Single Inlet Restrictor

It is an orifice in the inlet that restrics the power that the engine can develop. These are currently not required for the class, but based on reports of Sean O. taking entire straights to get passed by Atlantics, they may be back in before we know it.

    Default thanks

Since it referrences a "single" air restrictor does this restrictor define the area of the opening that feeds air to the induction system on the motor? Or, is this a restrictor plate that attaches to the motor ala nascar? Also why can't we have an F1000 outrunning a DSR car? I remember Seans report from Sebring, could you clarify? thanks

The Atlantics had no troubles with me... have a look at the lap times!

The sir would be at the air intake, not bolted to the engine or throttle bodies and no. lets not start talking about that again!

No way a F1000 will ever out run a DSR, since the DSR's are allowed engine performance mods.

    Congratulations, Neil.

As Mike Devins would say, you're 80% done and only have 80% left to do. :-).

I'm envious. I'm stuck at my floor pan step, waiting for rivets to arrive. Once they show up, I'll only have 80% left to do.

Neil, do you have your own car building thread? If not, you should. I'm always a little surprised to see your car in this thread. It doesn't look like the Stohr at all!

When you get ready to pump up that RC mill a bit, the Honda Engine Kit, Part No. 06100-NL6-020 is only $31,968.72.

And you thought this was gonna be inexpensive.

The World Superbike HRC motor was supposed to be putting out 180 - 190HP when Colin Edwards won the WSB championship - same motor Joey Dunlop used at the TT for his last win.
    HRC will not sell them.

Nice looking car - like the idea of being different.

    Shifter installed.
    Double shear mounts installed.

Sabelts courtesy of Roland Johnson here in Sandiego; surprisingly light belts if you're that weight conscious.

Is the chain guard rule for F1000 the same as DSR? 1/4" aluminum or 1/8" steel? Is there a minumum width in addition to thickness?

    Hi Clark,
I will be using most of the bodywork however I don't know if I will be keeping the engine cover yet. The car looked fairly goofy with the tail on and I'll either cut a hole for the air box or just not run the tail at all.
