Palmetto, FL (November 30, 2006)- The Cooper Tires Formula Ford 2000 Championship is sanctioned by the National Auto Sport Association and represents one of the first rungs on the professional open-wheel auto racing ladder in North America. It features modern, purpose-built, single-seat race cars powered by either four-cylinder, DOHC, fuel-injected 2.0-liter Ford Zetec engines, which produce 160 hp, or the older, slightly less powerful, carbureted SOHC 2.0-liter Ford engines which will be vying for Cooper Gold Cup honors. All cars employ “slick” Cooper Zeon racing tires and are capable of speeds in excess of 140 mph. Each weekend will comprise of a pair of 30 minute races.
We will start out the season at Mosport International Raceway in Ontario Canada , with the Victoria Day Weekend Speedfest May 19-20. This is an exciting event at a challenging course that we haven’t visited since 2004.
We will be returning to Cleveland , Ohio for the Grand Prix of Cleveland held in conjunction with the Champ Car World Series on June 22-24. This 2.106- mile course is held on the shores of Lake Erie at the Burke Lakefront Airport . This event is a huge success every year, and we are very excited to be attending again in 2007.
July’s race will be at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington , Ohio held in conjunction with the Indy Racing League and the American Le Mans Series. Mid-Ohio has always been a favorite track among our drivers, and we are very pleased to be part of this fantastic event on July 20-22.
August we will return to Road America in Elkhart Lake Wisconsin to the beautiful 4.048 mile road course along with the Ferrari Challenge August 2-5.
The final race weekend will be held once again at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with the National Auto Sport Association National Championship Runoffs on September 14-16. NASA put on a professional event in 2006 and we both are looking forward to an even better one in 2007.
