Default Square intake hole filled in?

On the intake for the carb, between the 4 round holes is a small sqare to oval shaped hole that matches the same hole on the head. On the used one I got last year, that hole is filled in with some kind of buildup??????

On the old one I have, it is not. What is the hole for, and is it supposed to be filled?

Am I like stu and pid?

I believe that is the water jacket used on a street engine, to help warm the engine faster. For performance we want the intake manifold as cool as possible, so this is typically blocked at the head with the gasket, and may be filled in on the intake manifold.

I would ask your engine builder for his recommendation.

Cut a small piece of thin brass shim stock and glue it over the hole (against the head) with red high heat RTV before you install the gasket.

Default Square intake hole filled in?

I had mine welded shut and ground flush. A tiny bit more weight and one less place I can't forget to add sealant.
