    Default Stolen Trailer

    John,

Do you have a picture of the trailer. There has been a rash of trailer thefts in McHenry County, Illinois. They are using them for landscaping. They will take the stickers off for sure but they won't bother repainting them. Good luck.

Thanks for the concern. I couldn't believe it when I pulled into the driveway.

I'll try to find a picture to post.

    Thanks again.

    Default Stolen Trailer

    Hi John,

I am so sorry to hear that your trailer was stolen. Seems to be a lot of interest by the wrong elements in our trailers. I hope it is located soon. If you need to use our trailer to transport your car to a race, let me know. We only have one more race scheduled at Road America (September 22 - 24). If I can help you in any other way, let me know.

Once more for the dummy . . . someone recently posted a message regarding the trailer GPS tracking systems he had available with a discount. Now I can't find it. Any help?

With more and more trailers stolen it is just a good idea.

    Thanks

    Hey Jerry,

Thank you very much for the offer. It looks like Mark Hutchison and I are trying to do the Cooper Pro race with you guys so this little hurdle creates a small logistic problem.

The good news is that both cars were in the shop and I have hope that the people who took the trailer will find it and all the spares inside to be useless.

How is the car after Sunday's "festival of Carnage"?

As I have mentioned in the past, if anyone has questions about alarms, I will be more than happy to help with info.

    Default Stolen Trailer

    John,
I am sorry and feel your pain, having lost mine earlier this summer. I did replace the trailer (older, hopefully "less attractive") and I found a very secure lot just down the street from my house. I am now spending about $125. per month. A little expensive but I can now sleep at night.
I hope they did not get too much in the trailer. and I hope you were insured.

This thread, and the others, just indicate that a GPS tracking system is a worthwhile expense. More trailers are stolen while on the road than from driveways or storage areas. While in use it is unlikely the owner will disable the trailer - i.e. remove a wheel or use a boot. Most locks that are used to lock the trailer to the tow vehicle can be cut in less than a minute with a portable saws all. At least with a tracking unit you can get the trailer's location quickly.

Check with your insurance company regarding discounts for this provision. Be careful how you describe the trailer and be hesitant about saying you transport a race car.

Thanks for keeping your eyes and ears open. I especially like the C-4 option but I don't have Scott's training and I don't think luck is on my side to start now.

    Quick poll:
    1. Has it been stripped and had the aluminum recycled?
    2. Mobile meth lab?
    3. Retitled as a homebuilt?

    Just curious.

Default The reality of it being a mobile meth lab

is quite high. My wife is a county attourney in a small Kansass county and we see all kinds of things used as meth labs. Vans, cars, trailers, you name it. Aparently the trick is to use a crock pot and cook the crap till the crock pot explodes. Really. Then pick through the bits to get the goods and dump the vehicle.

Nice huh? They got one here in a van with a generator running to power the appliances. No reason you couldn't use 12 volt appliances though.

Another catch: In Kansas any trailer with a gross weight of under 2000 pounds does not require registration or title or plates. My small open trailer with tires/tire rack and the car falls into that catagory. Interesting huh??? Something about being an agricultural state....

The best theft protection for a trailer is an electric fence charger hooked to the tongue.

You can get either battery powered or solar powered types.

Just make sure to hide a switch somewhere so you can get in yourself.

C4 is too messy and there are the legal complications of purchasing it and if it blows, possible damage to the trailer.

Now a little old man with a sawed off shotgun....
