    Default Crossle 45 Tail Section

    Seeking Crossle knowledge -

I just bought a 1981 Crossle 45 with the aluminum rear bodywork/tail extension. When these are right they really look good but this one is a bit rough and looks homemade (not handmade). Was there a kit for these? Or a pattern/drawing available?

I'd like to replicate it or just purchase it as a kit.

    Thanks in advance to all

    Default Rear “wing”

Those are a waste of time and money in my book. I know somebody that actually put one in a wind tunnel and it created about 20 pounds of down force.
Many will disagree and say they can tell the difference but it it's placebo effect in my opinion.

    Thx Richard
Interesting - I'm hearing from both sides of the argument. Seems good looks do not always equate to an increase in performance.

I never got to see any wind tunnel data. The "Pacifc Coast Tail" looked good, but to my eyes, it also appeared to create more drag than what was gained in downforce. Adding a simple sheet aluminum pan extending under the engine from the firewall to the rear crossmember attached with hose clamps would reduce aero drag from the turbulence under the engine bay.

I think drivers back in the day tried to emulate what David Bruns did with the ADF to keep up with the technology of the time. No data on my part, but the way Bruns managed the air aft of the cockpit on the DB1 was brilliant, slippery like a trout.
