Default Is 91 Octane Non-ethanol OK for Vees?

I know everyone uses either race gas or 100LL aviation fuel.

But right down the street we have 91 octane non-ethanol. I use it in ALL my lawn equipment, basically everything with a carburetor.

I'm sure I'll follow suit at the track with race or aviation fuel. I don't see the harm in using 91 octane in a car with 7.3:1 compression. We could probably run 87 octane(without ethanol of course).

    What say you?

    Danny,

    To break this down:

    1. 91 octane will be okay for a Vee
    2. Non-Ethanol is good for your fuel cell and system

    3. The missing element is lead. *
Dave Carr from Autowerks, says we need a small amount of lead to keep the valves healthy. He does not feel that lead substitutes or additives are effective.

If you can get 91 octane pump fuel, I will assume it is non-leaded. You can buy a small amount of racing leaded fuel at Lime Rock, Thompson or Palmer and "spike" the pump fuel to meet the lead requirements.

BTW - If you are going to New Hampshire, I believe the only racing fuel they have is unleaded.

You can buy racing fuel at many Sunoco stations but you pay through the nose. (min 5 gal cans)

If you are just doing the Open Wheel Driving Experience, the 91 octane unleaded fuel will be fine for the 2 sessions.

If there is a local NASCAR track around - you might be able to buy a gallon or two of Racing fuel - or someone can bring a gallon of AVGAS for you to New Hampshire.

    ChrisZ

*At some point even AVGAS and racing fuel will go unleaded. At that point we will have to assume the fuel engineers will come up with something to lubricate the valves.....

Thanks, Chris. Yes, the fuel is unleaded.

I fired the pink BRD up today for the first time in 4 years. It spit all sorts of dirt/dust from the exhaust which was stored off the car. The engine intake and exhaust were both plugged.

The motor was stored with the rockers loose, no extra tension on the springs.

New plugs, torque rocker stands, adjust valves, check points, new oil and filter. 15 seconds of cranking and the pump did it's thing.

Yes, I'm planning on the OWDE. Hoping to see y'all there.

i used to buy VP C12 at Behrent's speed center in Florida NY and Maroney's power sports in Newburgh.....I don't know if they still sell it. I've also had other VP fuels shipped.....just had to pick the cans up at the hub, they would not deliver to my house
