I remember the day I first saw Jeff Gordon slinging that #4 BEAST midget around Winchester on Thursday Night Thunder on ESPN. I was mesmerized at the talent, because we were pretty close to the same age. I loved watching the sprints and midgets on ESPN from around the midwest. The soundtrack to those summer nights was voiced by Bob Jenkins.

    73 is way too young.

    Very sad news.
There is way too much of this going around.

I used to leave work early on Thursdays to get home in time to watch Speedweek.
    Gonna miss that voice.

Bob Knew about all racing even SCCA FV
When we ran IRP oval he was in the Pits looking and asking
    great questions.
We shared a flight after Talladega Fall race in 1998 I think.
All we talked about was the runoffs that were the next week and
who might win the different classes.
He said he admired how hard it was to get an Invitation.
    A real racer
    RIP

Hey - both of us attended out first 500s in 1960. I think he got more out of the experience - I was only 11 months old.

I miss those early days of ESPN and Speedvision.
