Default SCCA autocross legal modular helmet

I assume since it is mentioned in the scca rule book such a helmet exists? My searching has not yielded any as yet. Anybody know of a source for a modular autocross legal helmet?

Currently there are 54 M2020-Rated helmets on the Snell certification list, you can cross off all the ARAI models; they don't make a modular.

You could look at the M2015-Rated list to see if there are likely more options that just haven't been tested to 2020 standard yet.

I just looked on the Bell site and saw that they list the SRT-Modular helmet as DOT approved, not Snell M approved.

The SRT and the SRT-modular are two different models. Some websites are incomplete in their listing the Bell SRT-Modular helmet as a "Bell SRT".

Thanks Again, Daryl. I am going to try to find a place locally to go try helmets on. Maybe I can get a full face to work for me.

    Hi Tom,

Have you looked at the Bell Sport EV? The "EV" is for "extra vision." They claim it has the widest opening in a full faced helmet for those that use glasses.

I need a new helmet and it is on my short list to check out. I wear glasses but I've never had any significant issues getting them on/off after I put the helmet on.

Very few modulars have been run through the Snell testing, there's articles about it. You will probably have better luck getting the ECE rating than M-Snell. Look at motorcycle shops and Revzilla https://www.revzilla.com/search?_utf...ry=Ece+modular

If your concern is eyewear, maybe get a M-rated motocross helmet. The eye-port is huge. You can wear OTG goggles. I have an Arai VX-4Pro that I use when I race my bike. It's light. The ventilation is incredible. It's more comfortable than any SA helmet I've ever worn.

Yes. My ARAI VX4 Pro is M-rated. The Bell Moto9 and Bell Moto10 models are snell M-rated. The SHOEI VFX Evo is the only other motocross helmet listed on the 2020 spec line.

If you went with a M2015 models you also have several choices from FLY and Troy Lee Designs who are bigger names in the motocross equipment world.

Yes, but it must have the label fixed, usually to the headliner or straps. The link to scca pdf in the other thread has info on how to read the label and what is acceptable. I would not buy one without inspecting it in person. I mention the ECE rating since modular helmets are more popular in Europe and so few have been put through the Snell rating.

Modulars, because of extra mechanism. tend to weigh more than similar full face.

You probably can find a large eye port M-Snell easier than the ECE. We have had some local folks show up with motocross M-Snell

You could also just buy a one piece M rated Moto helmet. Lots more selection and still has a huge eyeport designed for goggles that will make fitting glasses easier.

Were you able to test fit it? Seems dicey to order without especially when you are worried about fitment with your glasses.

I could barely get it over my scull and no way over my ears. I'm returning it.
